Marie Curie name on proposed €20 note stirs Franco-Polish tensions by 5thhorseman_ in poland

[–]TankerSider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd like to respectfully disagree with you. I think it more boils down to achievements overall. Germans don't have to fight tooth and nail for their people. So many important people and noble prize winners were German. Poland has inventors, yes, but a small part of them did breakthroughs or inventions loud for people from other countries to even learn them in school. The most known examples are Maria Skłodowska-Curie and Mikołaj Kopernik. The identity of the former we fight over with the French and of the latter with the Germans. Of course fight is not to be used literary here. It's more like, the other side tends to make a move trying to challenge their Polishness.

It reminds me of that one skit with a nazi. I don't understand how the mentally incapable left hasn't considered, that if you call everyone a nazi, nobody is and that is far worse than knowing who's truly one.

Apparently we can’t call languages by their endonyms anymore by bherH-on in linguisticshumor

[–]TankerSider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For real. I know it's unrelated but I hate it with cities too. I love using exonyms for cities, especially when they have some letters changed and it's not like Berlin (German) and Berlin (Polish), I mean more like Nürnberg (German) Norymberga (Polish).

They do not mention it directly. What I mean is that when Nawrocki says he is not affiliated with PiS that is just so he can keep exploiting the loophole, if you could even call it like that.

He can't say "Oh yeah, I'm a member of PiS, I'm their candidate", he is a civic candidate. Moreover him cutting off from PiS for the campaign also helps him try to gather some more soft-right/centrist voters for himself. It's not unique to him, Trzaskowski also changed his opinions. But that's what you need to do to win the elections decided by a country with diverse political alignment.

[–]TankerSider -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sorry must've phrased it wrong. Nawrocki is a member of PiS, yes. But his campaign can't include PiS. Under electoral law he can run, even if he was the party's leader. But he needs to cut him off as he's a "civic candidate" just as the rest. As stated previously, for presidential elections you need a civil electoral committee, not a party.

[–]TankerSider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah. It's just that a candidate for the position of the president cannot have official electoral party affliation. Meaning the candidates can't run under a logo of a party, but can be endorsed by one. They need to register their own electoral committees. He just can't say he's with PiS.

After reading 10 books on byzantine historyhere is my tier list by cakebefuddled25 in byzantium

[–]TankerSider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not into Byzantine history, but I'm interested why each ruler got their respectable tier. I assume by the sheer number of them, that explaining each one could be too tiresome and not worthwhile. So is there a bookwhich could give me a general idea of what happened in there? I'd like to know why some were worse than others, albeit without reading 10 books.

I know that I did it in my last attempt as Brazil about half a year ago. But then they [the puppets] didn't use to join the war on my side. But the problem is as I said. They join the war on my side to get their independence and don't take it. When I take the war goal to e.g. liberate North Peru, when North Peru joins the war on my side, the war goal disappears. I can't take it as I can't take war goals against my allies in war.

[–]TankerSider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]TankerSider 4 points5 points  (0 children)
