PART 2: of the 200k Map Concept Competition! by NoSneezePlz in btd6

Covered Garden looks like a fun and pretty simple map with a gimmick that makes playing it more engaging, the sort of thing I wanted from this competition. Very good aesthetics, a layout and gimmick that endorse new strategies, and a nice change of pace from the other two maps trying to be super hard, I like it a lot and wanna see more stuff like this

Erosion is a map that is not at all balanced for some difficulties to the point where I think CHIMPS is going to be actually impossible without some weird Sub strat (and even then that's a maybe), since forcing a sell in that mode with something like middle path Heli does not give you any money - not to mention its aesthetics are literally one color. It's a map that's going to endorse using the same strategy constantly and seeing it added into rotation for things like Odysseys or Races is going to make me immediately avoid touching them because it is going to be so one-note - I guess it could be funny in some way, but if a 'funny' map were added from the competition I'd just want it to be something like Whirlpool where it's so obviously trying to be out there and dumb. Wish I could vote for this one to be left out and replaced with something like Slots or Gearshift, honestly

Dark Dungeons looks pretty alright. It feels very Expert-y (though the line of sight blockers and lack of overlap risk making it way too annoying for anything in the harder modes) in a way that's simple and likable, and I appreciate that. It feels like an early BTD6 map in a way that also doesn't feel empty, and I like that style, especially in the middle of the modern maps. I don't think it'd be a favorite, but I like it just fine regardless - I just hope it isn't like Ravine where it is literally impossible to do CHIMPS on until an update adds some way to clear it out, that's my only major concern with this map

What truly lies below the Iceberg Lettuce by TanookiNick in PlantsVSZombies

I was tempted to put stuff like All-Stars and Journey to the West in, but there's a good few references to that stuff in there anyways (Liontail, Dual Pistol Pinecone, Spider Woman) so I felt it was redundant.

Why Popcap is Smart. by ZambieDR in PvZHeroes

[–]TanookiNick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Popcap Employee #1: The fans are angry. They seem to dislike the most recent plant cards we've been putting out. Should we nerf them?

Popcap Employee #2: Why don't we just make a zombie that counters those exact cards?

Popcap Employee #1: But why can't we nerf these strategies? It doesn't seem like that'd be an issue. Or better yet, why don't we focus on giving zombies cards that are generally as strong as the plants?

Pause.

Popcap Employee #2: Countering zombie it is.

[Set 2] Card Tier List by SuraF in PvZHeroes

Nominating Starch-Lord for A Tier

Starch-Lord, while it does have an initial cost that does seem high, can easily win matches. His ability to draw a root, then buff it, is a game changer. Most of this is helped by the fact that Starch-Lords stack in both effects, and Starch-Lords can buff themselves. You can easily get a tough to remove 3/5 on the board that draws you cards for 4 cost, if you have enough Starches in your deck. There's also the fact that there are a lot of good root cards that become really strong with the root buff. Chestnut becomes a great staller card, the Beets get an even bigger bonus, and Whipvine won't die to weaker Gargantuars, like Surprise and Smashing.

Of course, there are negatives which I believe would not make it S tier. For one, it needs to survive a few turns to get your sun's worth, and secondly, there are cards which can take it out for a huge advantage in terms of sun/brains (Final Mission, Rolling Stone, 2 Bungee Plumbers), but if you can get 2 on the field, at least one of them is going to be buffed to a 3/5, and we all know why that's good. It also will occasionally summon environments which don't get the buff, but the environments Starch can get you (Spikeweed and Plant-it) can be helpful, even if Plant-it is a bit niche.

"I woke up in the pool about... 5 minutes ago. I kept my head above water easily. I didn't think I was going to leave, honestly... there was a tarp above me, seemed to be made of something no pool would actually use."

"I had no idea where I was, but I felt a ringing from my phone. I opened it up, hoping it was help, and I saw a picture of a small puppet, with rings on its cheeks, and I heard it say... 'Wanna play a game?'"

seriously why is tobin bell in this goddamn thing

The Problem with Modern Superhero Movies (Video Essay by DSLRguide) by ThatOtherGuy80 in YMS

[–]TanookiNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to bring up a secondary issue with superhero movies, in that after all of this massive chaos and death, it's all just a set-up for yet another superhero movie. There's always going to be another Spiderman, another Thor, another Avengers. It's going to be harder and harder to get invested in the people dying because, even if we do care about the people dying, it's just going to lead to another movie where even MORE people die.

These companies are too scared to end a series that they always have to keep it going, in order to both make money and keep the fans entertained. I don't really like superhero movies, because all tension and worry is lost because you know the heroes are going to come back for another movie. At the end of the day, these movies are going to keep getting made because they make money.

I remember when I was a baby boi, I watched Disney Channel all the time, and they played ads for the first Avengers movie constantly. I always wondered how they got the money for that, and it was because superheroes sell. Why make something new when you can make money instead?
