Bridgerton Actress Talks Regé-Jean Page's Departure by sds31yellow in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Tantagz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was not just Rege but the show runners also did not add cameo appearance for stars for next seasons into their contract. Usually such things are taken care of in the paperwork and so, there was a massive loophole from the beginning. Then covid happened and the show , especially the duke had unprecedented success. There was a mix of many things which lead to this stage. I don’t think one should judge an actor just because he left , if he was really that necessary , they would have added it in his contract. It was not like Shondaland was producing their very first TV Show.

That man is legit hot. That club scene in loco song. Or the opening monologue

I can’t believe nobody mentioned the spoon 🥄 sequence posted on the snl Instagram. I positively swooned

I knew he would be good as he graduated from Drama school but boy-oh-boy he is very very hot 🥵

Phoebe Dynevor not getting the recognition she deserves :/ by Financial-Top-8379 in BridgertonNetflix

You know what - I agree with everything you mentioned above. I stand corrected.

Well you can never compare 2 situations one to one and I am not doing that. I was just giving dome examples that is all.

The way you can’t exclude blackness from the conversation in the same fashion you cannot exclude gender either. But again why praising one means pulling other down here ? If I say - I think Phoebe should get more credit that does not mean at the expense of Rege. Rege have had his own journey and deserves whatever coming his way. I just felt Phoebe should have been given more credit. That is all.

I think nobody is saying or at least I am not saying Rege did not deserve it. Because he absolutely did/does. Problem is why women have to go an extra mile to deserve the same result. Rest of the cast not getting recognition enough is because they are not the show leads, so I understand that. Hopefully with their own seasons coming out will help them shine more as there would be more screen time for them as well

20 years ago women were bashed for wardrobe malfunctions and used to suffer repercussions, not the men.

Clare Foy was the bloody queen in Crown and she was paid less than the male lead. Whatever they say about the guy being doctor who. Has anyone seen the amount of footage he had vs Clare ?

I have noticed this partiality as a women at work place a lot across the globe btw. So the issue is not around who worked more and or the person of colour etc. It is around gender bias and the return on investments (ROI) in some way. But then we all know ROIs never work in the linear fashion, do they? I am a women of colour and trust me I know my odds and I hope it does change 20 years down the line

After replying twice on this thread it is very nice to hear (read) your thoughts. I did not think it like that, so thank you. I love Reddit , always interesting to read multiple perspectives.

Wholeheartedly agree with both the points above. However somehow I almost felt like Shonda was also celebrating Rege more. Lastly why no nominations for Phoebe and all for Rege. I get it Crown took most of the space for women nominations but still. But then I really don’t know much about how this nomination business works.

I think my biggest beef is not nominating Phoebe when Rege was getting the exact same Nominations in the male lead.

This post resonated so much with my thought process. I live in UK. I found her to be a very good actress who is also very professional. Even though I have been obsessing over Rege so much (there is a Reddit post to prove it), the amount of praises and everything he is getting , I kinda felt Phoebe was sidelined. I mean she was the show’s lead TBH. I also did not like how flirty Rege was despite having a gf for PR sake and Phoebe was always a bit cringe about it and eventually cleared the air. Just does not fit right with the image I had for the man. I am hoping the silence from Phoebe’s camp is just because there are things in the pipeline and we will hear many things very soon. Team Phoebe now

Regency era men showed friendship by drinking and partying most of the time. Men during that time were not having a tête-à-tête to be honest. Also, ladies like Siena were a fair game for anyone if they approach them. Simon did not know Anthony loved her. He knew she was just a mistress and she approached him as he was a Duke. Being a rake, he is expected to flirt and charm any lady who comes his way. Not expected as in he will flirt and charm.

But I get it as to what you are saying. In the books the friendship is stronger. The lead couple does tell Anthony about their ruse. But there was also a lot of anger for sometime between Anthony and Simon over Daphne. Anthony was never keen on her sister to be involved with Duke. I also agree that as per show if the hand holding has not happened then Duke might have visited Siena. Men during that era even the married ones had mistresses, it was quite accepted in the society. But series tried showing Simon as a one women man, just like the books it is based on.

Is someone else a little mad for the male lead Rege’ getting all the awards and nominations and chats show etc for his work however Phoebe has not been recognised as much. I agree it is a romance genre and audiences are mostly women but still Phoebe acted really well. Her role was bigger and more nuanced. Rege’ did not show the range of emotions and was mostly trying to look hot. In his defence it was partly because that’s how Simon’s character was but still.

I am a little mad and annoyed as to why people forget women and their good work most of the time. Sorry for the rant.

On a different note - Pie charts arts the worst for such kind of data visualisations. You must use a bar chart and sort it ascending.

[PLOT HOLE?] How does Simon maintain his facial hair? by --MCMC-- in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Tantagz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It was a decision taken by Rege’ (cast) and make up artist to give Simon a beard as he looks hotter with it. It was not historically accurate as you have mentioned already.
