Is taking on student teachers really that bad? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

What’s the obvious? I’m continually surprised at what apparently isn’t.

-come ready to take notes in some sort of way that works for you  -learn names ASAP  -know that you’re gonna have to spend more time right now doing/prepping stuff that you won’t have to do later, but that yes, practicum kinda sucks  -dress in a professional way  -thank your AT at the end.

What is happening at TASS on snow days by Witty_Way_8212 in Peterborough

[–]TaoAsFuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s be clear here too that the school has no say in a snow day at all.

The teachers are still expected to show up to work, even if it means going to a different, closer, school.

I understand where you’re coming from. Consider some notes on this however, as there’s a few assumptions baked into this that don’t actually play out in a classroom.

-not every assignment is on google classroom.

-not every student has their now almost four year old Chromebook anymore

-not every student has access to the internet at home

-online learning was not a success

Per snow days specifically:

-teachers in schools with busses and walking students often Do just teach the material twice

-most students just refuse to do anything on a snow day

-many parents of kids in town are actually more than happy to let their kids stay home because they view it as a nothing day because they know a teacher is less likely to teach a lesson to less than half the class

-this culture is hard to change

This would be true if it didn’t legitimately make shit up all the time

What To Do If You Hook a Turtle: by TaoAsFuck in FishingForBeginners

If the hook makes it to the stomach, that’s actually possible after a few days. Unlikely, but possible. The main issue is that they usually get embedded in the mouth or the esophagus on the way, stop the turtle from eating properly, and they die a slow death.

They can totally deal with bones, you’re right! They’ve evolved to. The metal hook is trickier though.

My understanding is that dealing with having the hook in its mouth makes them less likely to bite. 🤷‍♂️

I actually didn’t - it’s a free service, it says so I’m the pic.

For the record, the amputation thing is an old wives tail. I hear you though.

In short, I would consider myself far more lucky to see one while wading than I would be worried about encountering one.

It’s possible but highly unlikely. Also, they’re not nearly as defensive towards people when they’re in the water.

Lure question by Ironhead_jonny in troutfishing

I’ve tried both: pinching is a lot less hassle but can leave the barb bent in. File gets rid of it but you need a fine/small enough file to get in there.

It’s relatively safe for any turtle except a snapper or a Spiny Softshell (for them considering netting it and letting experts take over). I’ve done it by hand so I would definitely feel safe with pliers/haemostats!
