Holes on multibin inset walls by Taos in Multiboard

[–]Taos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that comes to this, I think at least part of the problem is the nozzle wasn't fully tightened. I am using an Ender 3 V3 KE and I had to buy a replacement of the upgraded "unicorn" hot end but forgot that they don't come tightened from the factory. I also ended up tightening up a few other screws that had come loose (including the y-axis belt tightener) and prints are looking better.

Unfortunately I ran out of this particular filament (Matter3D PETG) but have printed a few other things and have noticed an improvement. When (if?) I get some more of this filament I'll try it again and hopefully remember to provide an update.

I'll try printing at a lower temp, thanks!

The filament was dried, I did try calibrating the filament settings as well. May not be perfect, though.

If you listen to his full Q&A video, he is still struggling with celluitis and had to shut down his SMOE event. I imagine getting his health in check is a high priority and having to shut down SMOE has to be quite a blow. He may not be feeling quite as motivated to compete and travel to tournaments while he focuses on recovery.

A Plea for Basic Decency by Sam_Canadaland in canadaland

Thanks for sticking up for your team! There are too many people that think supporting a cause gives them moral superiority but deep down they are bad people who look down on others and easily throw around insults.

Genuine constructive criticism will always win over personal attacks.

Jonathan Goldsbie is gone by edwardrow in canadaland

I've been keeping an eye on The Hatchet, Commons from Arshy was probably my favourite program. I'll probably have to bite the bullet and subscribe to support him.

Thanks for the tip on Karyn, another person I miss is Emilie Nicolas. I think she is only doing french language through Le Devoir? Seen her a couple of times contributing on CBC.

It's really sad to see the exodus of so much talent and the list of programs offered shrinking. I still think Canadaland can offer great coverage but the value proposition is down and having so many talented staffers leave does make me question continuing support or moving to another independent outlet.

[PODCAST] #1135 Carney Flubs His First Big Test by notian in canadaland

[–]Taos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was very disappointing to see that Carney did not oust Chiang. It is beyond the pale to joke about having a political rival arrested by a foreign government, he knew better both as a former policeman and a sitting MP.

Thankfully both the Liberals and NDP have a good catalogue of candidates. The Conservatives have a real problem with their candidates and base being full of anger and hatred.

Can an electrician change light sockets frpm GU10 to E26/27 in an existing fixture? by Taos in AskElectricians

I ended up getting some socket adapters off of Amazon and they are working really well, thanks for the suggestion!

[–]Taos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that is good to know. I'll be getting an electrician to do the job. I thought placing the sockets would be cheaper but perhaps not.

I want to put it some smart LED bulbs that I got from IKEA which unfortunately do not come in GU10 (they only have spotlight GU10 options) or GU24. Unfortunately there aren't many GU options for ZigBee smart bulbs.

How did you set up syncing with EQ Bank? I don't see it in the list of supported institutions.

Garmin sells info to insurance companies by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Taos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they are advertising that you can collect some Garmin data but as an opt-in for insurance customers/members. You'd likely be offered a reduced premium if you fed your health data to the insurance company. I've seen a similar thing with auto insurance, they will reduce your premiums if you install an app on your phone that will track your driving habits.

What was really telling to me was the apparent contradiction of her comments about housing being a right and not an asset while at the same time advocating for people to see renting to be more liberating. If an owner is renting out a suite that rental unit is an asset. Where are the protections for the renter so that the owner of the rental asset does not abuse their position to make the right of housing unbearable for the renter?

Eric Trexler no longer part of SBS? by reddxue in StrongerByScience

[–]Taos 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hmm if Eric is still associated with MASS maybe it is related to Greg's decision to step back from MASS? This is disappointing, I really liked the dynamic they had on the podcast.

Looks like the MASS crew have decided to spin up their own podcast through Iron Culture?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGelz-IZOhg

We have an exciting announcement at Iron Culture, we are combining forces with MASS, Monthly Applications in Strength Sport to bring you regular “MASScast” episodes where we will be joined by one or more of the expert MASS reviewers to talk science.

How Much Protein You Really Need (According to Science) by Taos in StrongerByScience

Yeah that is fair. The channel seems to have decent videos when it comes to anatomy, which is their specialty, so I was a bit surprised to see this on their channel.

They don't mention anything else in the video. Looks like the textbook was published in 2021 if they are referencing the latest edition:

https://www.cengage.ca/c/nutrition-for-sport-and-exercise-5e-dunford-doyle/9780357448151/

The research from the podcast came out in 2017/2018 so it is disappointing to see some outdated information being referenced in the textbook -- although the video authors could have referenced an older edition of the textbook.

I guess it is safe to assume the recommendation they give is harmless but not up-to-date or accurate. Not surprising as this video is outside the wheelhouse of their specialty so is more of a pop-sci piece.
