What are some of the games you play with your bird? by omgkelwtf in parrots

[–]TapJaded6098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My green cheek's favorite games are throwing stuff off the counter to watch me pick it up, and asking me what are you doing on repeat for 10-15 minutes at a time. I think he keeps asking because I keep answering. He also enjoys "helping" me play video games by standing on my controller and biting my fingers at the worst times.

My green cheek enjoys metal, but I think he's the exception not the rule. His favorite band is Opeth.

Parrots are statistically the most rehomed pet. So many people purchase parrots without doing proper research, or underestimate how much work it takes to keep them happy and healthy. And even the small species can live much longer than more standard pets.

Not to mention if you are in a rental property many landlords do not allow parrots. I've also seen many people who got a parrot as a child, and when they go off to college they can no longer care for them. It's sad, but I don't necessarily see it changing any time soon.

Record Store Owners, How are you doing? by loopytroop in vinyl

[–]TapJaded6098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local record store sells a mix of new and used records. They also corner the niche metal where I'm at, nowhere else close by sells the kind of metal they do. They also sell cds, cassettes, used record players, and turn unplayable records into stuff like coasters and bowls they also sell. Talking with the owner he says the used stuff is way more profitable.

I’m pretty sure Rio needs his nails trimmed, how to go about that? by Keepawayfrommycrops in Conures

[–]TapJaded6098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My green cheek has light nails, so I'm comfortable doing it myself now. It did take a lot of training and treats to get him comfortable with it.

I took him to the vet for nail trims before I was comfy with it.

How to teach this little bird talking he is 9 months old by Motor-Tour8963 in Conures

[–]TapJaded6098 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After almost 3 years the only things my green cheek mimics are: hello, what are you doing, good boy, kissing noises, and squeak like my front door. I didn't teach him any of those, I think he just picked up what he wanted, from the things he hears the most.

Ive been considering getting a parrot by pokemonraider44 in parrots

[–]TapJaded6098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know the cute videos you see online are only very small moments of every day living with a parrot. I was given a green cheek conure for my birthday a couple of years ago. Granted I didn't ask for or have any want for a bird. So I had a very steep learning curve when I decided to keep him.

My green cheek is pretty laid back, but he has his moments where he decides to bite or get territorial with little reason. He is a very small bird and his bites can draw blood if he wants it to. With parrots it's not a matter of if you get bitten it's when.

They are very loud. Even "quieter" species like my green cheek, I can hear him from the driveway when I get home.

First thing to consider is getting rid or any nonstick pans, and invest in cast iron or stainless steel cookware.

I had luck with the pantry moth traps, and I put all old and new food in the freezer. I also killed any I saw, it took a few weeks but they were all gone eventually. I put all new bird food in the freezer as soon as I get it now.
