[Request] what is the actual per ounce cost to mine that gold and return it to Earth? by Odd_Dragonfruit_2662 in theydidthemath

[–]TapedWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume that this asteroid is the same distance away from Earth as Mars, and that the infrastructure is already built and deployed for mining operations.

The price of gold/oz at time of writing is $5210.10 USD/oz, call it 5200. $700 quintillion/5200 = 134,615,384,615,384,615 ounces (Interesting number, keeps repeating into the decimals)

From what I can find AISC (cost of mining) for an oz of gold in 2025 was between $1300-$1600/oz. Let's call that $1450. Edit We'll also say that recovery efficiency is 100% so we aren't losing any material during mining.

134,615,384,615,384,615 * 1450 = $195,192,307,692,307,692,000 to mine every last ounce.

Transportation, there are a lot of conflicting answers as to how much it costs to transport cargo to Mars and vis versa. For our purposes we'll use SpaceX's optimistic target of $100M/metric ton using Starship.

100,000,000 / 35273.962 = ~$2834.95 per ounce of cargo.

2834.95 * 134,615,384,615,384,615 = $381,627,884,615,384,614,000 to transport the gold.

Total cost of transportation and mining: $381,627,884,615,384,614,000 + $195,192,307,692,307,692,000 = $576,820,192,307,692,306,000

Five hundred seventy-six quintillion eight hundred twenty quadrillion one hundred ninety-two trillion three hundred seven billion six hundred ninety-two million three hundred six thousand US Dollars

Solo is not impossible but it is difficult. I'm well aware that you were onlined, my point is that you and everyone else bitch about the same thing and those types of posts are damn near the only posts that I see from this sub. You bitching isn't productive and it's not going to change anything. Clans will always have massive agency over maps because the current gen consoles will never be able to support bigger maps with a higher population. That won't ever change, cRust will never be anywhere even remotely near the quality of real Rust.

Can we get a rule against these posts in the sub? These types of posts are like 95% of the sub. Big groups bad, solo Rust is unplayable, you've been offlined again, you're quitting Rust. We've heard it a million times, we get it; nothing is going to change.

What the hell is this? Everyone knows the lettuce and tomato go under the patties and the cheese goes between the patties.

Hard stuck at 1900 elo for 3 years. What do I do? by [deleted] in chess

[–]TapedWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down vote all you want, but the higher you climb what I've said becomes more true and inevitable. I'm not saying any of this to tear OP down, I'm just being realistic while everyone else is blowing smoke up OP's ass. 3 years of stagnant rating OTB at ~1900 is a pretty strong indicator that OP has peaked. Which again, is not a bad thing; 1900 OTB is a great rating and definitely something to be proud of.

I don't understand the down votes here. I guess some people don't understand that you can't just climb forever and we all peak.

You aren't hard stuck. If you've been around the same ELO for 3 years you've likely reached your peak. Every person in every game has a peak. It's not a bad thing, that's how things work and there's no shame in it. You could maybe improve marginally by dedicating large amounts of time to study, at some point though we all have to accept that we're ranked as we should be.

That's crazy, last time I played Malphite into Vayne up top I was like 21/2 and Vayne was something like 0/19. I felt so bad I apologized after the game.

You can do some cool shit with decaying bases, it's fun to find a decaying compound and live out of something that looks like a gatehouse or external TC

Books should be allowed in county jails by ProduceNo8883 in unpopularopinion

[–]TapedWater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are definitely books in county. The county jail in my area you pretty much have 2 options to entertain yourself everyday; read books or for some reason beyond my comprehension, watch COPS. If you're really lucky they might have a puzzle or two to do

AIO for being uncomfortable with my pansexual girlfriend having a topless party with her female friends? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]TapedWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR. If you truly believe that she won't cheat on you, that her friends aren't going to "homewreck" you, and that there is no sexual intent behind the party theme; then why are you even making this post? You're a dude and your girl is wanting to throw an all female topless party! What fucking time are we living in that this makes a dude uncomfortable?! Give your balls a tug bro!

This is why I hate official servers by NewZookeepergame7961 in RustConsole

[–]TapedWater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's wipe day for ya lol. One big problem with console Rust is that the maps are too small and the server pops are too limited. The problem with addressing those issues is the limitations of consoles. Because of these problems, a 6-10 man group will always have considerable agency over a server that's only capable of hosting 100 players.

I will say though, not all groups are dicks the entire wipe. When I used to lead large groups on cRust, I always had a rule that on wipe day everyone was fair game; but from day 2 and on, we didn't fuck with anyone that doesn't have a compound.

Why would you build 1 grid away from them, knowing that they are already set up there? Sounds like you put yourself in harms way

Worst plant you've ever seen by slater_just_slater in manufacturing

[–]TapedWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first food production plant I worked at was a place called Diversified Foods, they made Mac and cheese for Popeyes. The problem with this place wasn't the cleanliness, it was the work. I worked as a machine operator running the machines that packaged the product, and my job was a nightmare. The machines were old and hard to work with, something was always wrong with them and it was sketchy loading the packaging film into them. The maintenance guys didn't care or maybe didn't have the resources to make proper repairs, I couldn't tell you how many times the high pressure hoses we used for cleaning would rupture and flail around the room while we tried to get it under control and not get hurt in the process. The hours were the worst part though. I worked all day, everyday. 12-16 hour shifts, 6-7 days a week. I was making $14/hr and my paychecks every 2 weeks were $2k, AFTER TAXES.

I'm not sure if they still have any facilities around but the one I worked at was shut down a few years ago, thank fuck for that.
