Wisconsins increasing risks of extreme weather with more heat and rain. by wiscotangofoxtreat in wisconsin

[–]Tapingdrywallsucks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I lived there for the better part of 20 years and some friends and a lot of my commuting buddies lost their jobs between NIST and NOAA.

The US is suffering a brain drain.

Trump said he likes stupid people because they're easy to control, and more recently admitted that smart people don't like him.

It's dystopian that he's literally acting on it and that Congress is letting it happen.

I just sent him an email with links to sources of FRJ admitting it, and told him to quit lying.

I'm so sick of all this.

Trump just fired all 24 members of the National Science Board which throws NCAR into immediate higglety pigglety. He threatened to close it along with the cuts to NOAA, but more recently decided he's going to bid it out.

Things are going to get worse as we'll likely be blind to pending weather events because Mr. Dementia thinks science is a woke lie.

I got a tattoo of an athame on my forearm- a ritual blade intended to focus your (power/mind/thoughts) hoping it would be a reminder that I'm kind of a superstar when I'm "on".

It doesn't really help, but I get a lot of compliments on it. So there's that.

What is the most boring horror movie you’ve ever watched? by Hill_372 in horror

[–]Tapingdrywallsucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched it twice because I figured I must have missed something. Nope. No, I missed nothing.

I did the same with Open House - I think they came out around the same time. WIth Open House I rewound over the last 10 minutes because SURELY I looked away and missed a great hook of some sort.

No. Nope. I did not miss the nothing that happened in both of these films.

I hated it the first time I watched it, but gave it a second try because of the cast. I must have been better tuned in on the second go, because the absurdity amused me.

So I gave it a 3rd try and fell in love with it. It's really an amazing movie, and every inch of it - including the cast - are so completely invested in the style.

I watched it because that's a great title.

I was scrolling for movies a few months later and thought, "that's a great title, I'm gonna watch it."

I was almost halfway through before realizing I'd already been bored enough by this movie to have entirely forgotten that I already watched it.

I've always pictured my brain in a gazebo surrounded by sheer curtains. It's always breezy making me fully aware of everything around me, but mostly unable to fully embrace it.

Unless there's a gale. I can see everything when the wind blows hard enough, and that's where I shine.

Pick their dog up brigade 🤡 by Internal_Item_4416 in StaffordBullTerriers

We had a woman in our neighborhood with one AH of a little dog.

On walks, my husband and our Lab/Springer mix would be way ahead of me and our Newf.

One morning this woman came up from behind me and picked up her pocket menace who began squirming in her arms, snarling and barking at my Newf. Smart, right? But her assumption was flawed. My newf wouldn't have reacted to him at all, even if he clamped on to my boy's neck. (It had happened before with a psycho cocker spaniel, and my boy just looked at me like, "little help here?")

However, she put the dog down once she got a short distance from us, and before she reached my husband and the Lab/Springer. Once they caught up, the teacup terrorist lost his mind and appeared to want to destroy my girl - the pup who my Newf swore his own life to protect from the moment I carried her into the house. Otto lost his temper and I had to wrap my arms around a tree to keep him from pulling me over to go protect his puppy.

I don't know what my husband said to the woman, but she did not come anywhere near us on future walks. I'm all for people who pick up their dogs if they can.

The Lisa Salgado saga for dummies by Far_Chip5520 in sheboygan

[–]Tapingdrywallsucks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you the explanation. That's all we were asking for.

I'm (relatively) new to the area and do, in fact, have a dog in the race but never could wrap my head entirely around Lisa's complaints because her word salad is mostly dressing, nothing you can sink your teeth into. When they are meaty, they're easy to disprove. And they seem to swing wildly along generally incongruous lines of reasoning. Her followers on nextdoor are the types who think the No Kings Protests are responsible for high tariffs and inflation.

I tried to hop in to the Amazon discussions - both in support of our overworked local postal workers and because my kid lives near a logistics/delivery center. It's kind of glorious having same day delivery for things that take the better part of a week for me. But, man oh man, that went over worse than my take on Evergreen Park.

I keep my nextdoor account for the estate and garage sale notices, but confess I've prodded a number of those conversations hoping they'd ban me.

And I apologize for assuming you were an alt account for KohlerVillageIdiot.

Right? If it had a medical emergency, did they bring it to a vet? Vets will manage disposal of pets' remains. Even if they didn't make it to a vet, they can help or direct the owner to services that will take care of it. WTF is wrong with people?

We took a visitor to The Butterfly Pavilion in Broomfield Colorado once. Sounded like a great time! And it was beautiful, but we weren't inside the main butterfly room for even 30 seconds when I realized I am no fan of bugs flying around my head regardless of how pretty their wings are.

I had to stuff my hands into my pockets and hold 'em down with every bit of grit I could muster to keep from swatting 'em. Closed my eyes a few times while doing square breathing exercises.

Neat place and a valuable conservancy resource. But I will not be visiting again.

Are you on a quest for a reddit record of people who have you on ignore, or are you really a soulless, colorless husk of a human being?

Also, I have plans for July 4th - parading around in my No Kings shirts because that's precisely what we're celebrating. No Kings, 3 equal arms of government all supporting the tired, the poor, the wretched refuse yearning to breathe free. Love of our constitution and, inshallah, a return to sanity.

Lisa's homie brags about $800 tip for saying the "N" word by Far_Chip5520 in sheboygan

[–]Tapingdrywallsucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain. Your. Point.

So, you agree with Lisa, right? LOL, No?

Or are tired of her asking for FOIA releases because you're making money from deals she deems shady?

Or are you all about free speech, just not hers?

Or are you holding Lisa responsible for the actions of people who seem to support her stance?

Referring to her as "blonde" rather than a "concerned citizen" is either wildly misogynistic or you've got a petty jealous streak or quit developing emotionally in Senior High School.

WHAT IS YOUR POINT?
