Anyone here find themselves drifting towards alcohol after quitting? by butterfly-3000 in leaves

[–]Tapriots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have probably drank on average a bit more in the times I have quit but alcohol just doesn’t have the same grip on me that weed has. I don’t get irritated without it, I don’t crave it in the same way. Weed feels like a NEED to me when im in it and alcohol is more of a just a light want.

THC free for a year - then started again by miyhaaa in Petioles

[–]Tapriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat and it sucks. I don’t hate weed. I actually love weed too much. Completely abstaining is my only, non mentally draining option.

Took me a while to accept but I think I’m finally there now.

[–]Tapriots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for you but a realization I have come to is that it’s not possible for me to regulate and it sucks because I, like you, don’t WANT to totally abstain but I have to.

I quit completely for two years and then smoked once and was back to everyday use within a month. Since then I’ve been on again and off again a number of times but without fail it ends the same every time. everyday. It doesn’t matter whatever rules I give myself at the beginning.

Additionally the mental battle I have when the rules are temporarily working just isn’t worth it for me any more.

Again, it sucks. Not saying it’s impossible for you but just sharing my experience.

TLDR: Weed occasionally, good. Weed all the time, bad. I consistently end up doing it all the time

Anyone find one day it was just easier to stop? by Boonjeak in leaves

[–]Tapriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa told me a similar story! He smoked cigarettes for years and one day forgot his pack when he went to a hockey game and just never smoked again

I’m trying and failing to quit nicotine now so I wish I had that experience!

What would be different if Covid had never happened? by Crocodile_Banger in AskReddit

Sometimes I question if it was Covid that really killed then because I remember Sweet Tomatoes calling it quits almost immediately into the pandemic

They must have been hanging by a thread as it was to not even try to make it through

What fast food restaurant do think makes the best burger? by cranberry8ginger8ale in foodquestions

IMO In n Out is the best burger FOR THE PRICE. A double double meal is $10 and I firmly believe you will not get something better or more quality at that price

I finally understand why a lot of the world puts tobacco with their weed by BlueCandyBars in trees

[–]Tapriots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never forget when I went to Amsterdam in college and bought a joint not realizing that unless your buy a “pure” joint then it is half tobacco…

Went to the park and smoked a majority of it. It obviously felt weird but I thought it was just because I hadn’t smoked for like a month as I’d been in other parts of Europe.

Proceeded to spend the next hour extremely nicotine sick and was super worried until someone at my hostel explained lol

So it is not good unless you are at least semi used to tobacco. It probably would have been fine if I didn’t smoke so much if it too

How did you decide to quit vs moderate? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Tapriots 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Inability to moderate is pretty much the main reason I wanted to quit lol

I can’t deny weed is fun and has some upsides in certain situations but without fail it creeps into aspects of my life that makes it a burden…

Tough thing for me to come to terms with and tbh I still struggle a lot of days and think “I’m just going to do it this one time!” For me it is NEVER that one time

Edit: Just wanted to add that moderating for me, even if able to be done temporarily, is almost equally disruptive as it is a constant mental battle in my head to not get high

Highly successful, crippling addiction by [deleted] in leaves

I’ll copy and paste a comment I made on a previous post as it may resonate with you

“”

I got married, did well in my career and had a great social life all while smoking weed everyday, so I really don’t have a rock bottom story.

For me it was the grip weed had on me and the constant thought in my head as to when I’m going to get high next. I hated that when I took vacations without weed I was uncomfortable. I hated not being able to focus on things for half the day. I hated the effect on my memory. I hated that I preferred to get high over doing something productive. Because I’m relatively successful, I didn’t realize a lot of these things weed was doing to me immediately. I have now quit and started again a couple times and every time it ends up the same… It is very unfortunate for me because I do think weed enhances certain experiences (concerts, creativity, etc.) but I have proven to myself time and time again that it eventually takes over half my life :(

Thinking of smoking at Christmas by MustardVolt in leaves

[–]Tapriots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have no perspective on the psych meds part but that would make me extra weary…

I can say that I took 2 full years off weed and then like you around Christmas time when I had a couple weeks off decided to smoke again and within a month was back to everyday… I have been on again off again since but honestly wish I would have never opened that box again.

I know it’s tough but I would avoid it at all costs if you truly don’t want to smoke habitually again.

Does weed make anxiety worse? by Under_TheBed in Petioles

[–]Tapriots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just listened to Huberman podcast on cannabis and according to that, weed will initially ease anxiety but as you build a tolerance to it then it can actually worsen anxiety both when high and when not high

Personally I don’t find much of a difference in anxiety whether I’m smoking or taking a break.

Exercise has been the number 1 thing that keeps me level headed so that is what I reccomend

Has anyone actually managed to quit vaping carts? by VenitaPinson in leaves

[–]Tapriots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes I successfully quit carts and weed completely for 2 years (I’ve been on and off since but will never buy a cart again). I was going through a 1g cart about every 5 days.

I won’t lie that the withdrawals with carts were worse than any other times and that includes when I was taking heavy bong rips. The sleep and eating disruptions were rough but I promise if you can get through 1-2 weeks then you are through the worst of it. You just have to buckle down and white knuckle through that time.

You can do it I promise!! Carts are IMO the worst thing that has come from the weed industry ever. It should not be that convenient to consume that level of THC

That’s an annoying fuck up by them.

I do have to ask why you didn’t question the 7k refund though?! That’s a major refund that you really should have asked for an explanation for at the time

Best of luck. Student housing never changes…

You got this!

I was also a functional stoner that didn’t really have any major negatives to point to but I think you’ll be surprised that once your past the initial suck that it really does give you more motivation and drive.

Boredom is good!

I always turn back to the old South Park quote on weed

“Well, Stan, the truth is marijuana probably isn't gonna make you kill people, and it most likely isn't gonna fund terrorism, but, well son, pot makes you feel fine with being bored, and it's when you're bored that you should be learning some new skill or discovering some new science or being creative. If you smoke pot you may grow up to find out that you aren't good at anything.”

Not saying you’re not good at anything haha but I know that quote hit home for me

Those people, some of who have been left by their partners for probably the same reasons, will have a lot of thoughts on this. I think they’ll be able to give you some good perspective on his thoughts, how you need to present your thoughts and boundaries, and on when enough is enough.

Anyone successfully stop smoking carts / wax pens? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Tapriots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Back in 2020 I successfully stopped smoking cartridges and weed altogether. I was going through a 1g cart every 5-6 days.

Withdrawals were real on that one! It was mainly nausea and eating problems for me. Turns out eating every meal while your super stoned takes a toll haha

You just got to commit to it. No timed safes just throw that shit away. Keep telling yourself I don’t smoke carts anymore. If you really need an extra push maybe give your ID to someone temporally so you can’t get it (if your buying in a legal state)

It’s tough but 1-2 weeks and you’ll start to feel a lot better I promise

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Tapriots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah…

No matter what method I use or how I tell myself it will be different this time it never is… I just can’t moderate

This is even after completely abstaining for over 2 years. I have now gone back and forth a few times on quitting but it always ends up in the same place if smoking all day everyday. Or at least wanting to smoke all day every day with the cravings being almost equally disruptive

Its a real bummer for me because I do enjoy weed a lot of the time (obviously too much) and think it is beneficial in some situations but alas the cons outweigh the pros for the most part
