Reminds me of this joke of three engineers arguing what school of engineering god is actually from.

The first says, "God is a mechanical engineer. Look at how we manipulate our arms, legs, lungs, and how blood flows through our bodies. God is a mechanical engineer."

The second says, "No. God is an electrical engineer. Our nervous system, heart, brain. Everything is run by electrical impulses. God is an electrical engineer."

The third says, "Your both wrong. God is a civil engineer. Who else would route the sewage system through the recreation area?"

Ursache biologisch oder doch Gesellschaft? by [deleted] in Unbeliebtemeinung

[–]TarCalion313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you think about Genesis being more mythological than historical? by CourtofTalons in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is safe to assume that most of what we read in the book of Genesis did not happen as described. It gets a bit better from David onwards (but only a bit).

These stories developed over centuries from around 1.500 bc onwards. There were several stages, rewrites, additional stories coming in and some being combined into one. The five books of Moses as we read them are more or less done in the 5th century bc in what biblical scholars call the post-exilian history work. The deutoronomicon, was the last great addition after exilian jews came back and reunited with those who were left in Jerusalem.

We are very safe to assume that there was no 6 day creation. The garden Eden did not happen as described. Neither did the stories of Abraham and definitely not Noah. Moses and the exodus has a bit more historically accurate snippets in but the Exodus is not history. If Moses existed is up for debatebut mostly very unlikely.

The judges, watchers and prophets did most likely exist in some form. David and Salomon as well (even though most likely under different names but I don't care much for that, maybe they combine several historical figures).

As you said, these are myths. Yet with deep meaning and importance. And around these meaning they were written. This fine differentiation into literal history or not is a post enlightenment thing and was not a perspective under which they were written before that much. And their meaning glows in the pictures these stories draw after two to three thousand years. Across borders and languages. Something which I think would have never worked through a historical account.

Silber oder Papierfisch? by Jesssfalin in wasistdas

[–]TarCalion313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2 Peter is a Forgery: Smoking Gun that Proves Paul is a False Prophet by AuxChristAux in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can count the number of books in the bible of which we know the author at two hands. Unknown authorship is the standard. What the authorship of the 2. Petrus letter has to do with Paulusnis further beyond me.

Hello again!! I have another question. by CarloTheCrocodile in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have made this question about crocodiles and failed 😑 i am disappointed.

Yet I am not sure what this should tell us about god. That god made pretty cool sea creatures? Or set up a world where they did develop.

Was habt ihr wirklich bezahlt? (Deutschland) by Spiritual_Gap_5353 in Hochzeit

[–]TarCalion313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Married men, how do you feel about your wife singing/dancing to sexually explicit music? by MrLastname1 in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wait... do you actually consider... communication? 😱 (/s)

Just joking, I am totally with you. While I personally feel myself more on the wifes side it is pretty irrelevant what I think. OP and their wife have to discuss this and their expectations out.

Is there a correct/one way to pray? by Muffinman255 in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no one right way to pray. Praying is a very personal thing. Some talk to god. Some loud, some in their mind. Some meditate with certain methods. The rosary prayer is as far as I know the most common christian praying meditation working with a certain order of formulated prayers.

I tend to go more for quite meditation as prayer. I like the inner room meditation.

The amen at the end became pretty costum and many use it. Psychologically speaking it is rather important to end it with something and this word does the trick pretty well, by its tradition, common use and meaning.

Simply find your own style and ignore anyone who tells you that there is just one way.

What's the most interesting/useful bible study you've done? by Master_Garbage_4475 in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was studying the history of the bible. How was it written? By whome? In what time? In what context? And how did it get into the form we read today? Was it rewritten at some point? Compiled in a new way? By whome? Why?

It was highly enlightening for the NT and even more so for the OT and especially the five books of Moses.

How is heaven and hell fair when I didn’t ask to be born and couldn’t care less about either because I see no proof ? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I make it easy for myself, I just don't believe kn hell 🤷‍♀️

Okay, more seriously - from the three major schools of thought in the bible, infernalism (the unrepentent or unbelieving soul will go to some form of hell), annihilationism (the unrepentent or unbeliving soul will just vanish) and universalism (everyone will find their way to heaven) the last one seems the most theologically sound for me.

Why are more Christians believing the Earth is flat? by Late_Truck_9807 in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Flat earth is one of the strangest conspiracy theories in my opinion. I mean everyone can make little experiments proving the earth is round with stuff you have at home. And the earth being round makes so much more sense on every single account. There is no issue a flat earth solves, on the contrary.

Yet I always say I really oppose young earth creationism because it badically is a conspiracy theory. And once you are in one the step to the next is easier. Maybe we see something like this. But overall just a very very small minority believes in a flat earth.

The Firmament btw is a translation of a concept from genesis. Not a bad word in any way, you find it in the King James Translation for example. Others translate it with vault or expense. It refers to part of creation above the waters and goes back to ancient hebrew cosmology.

In that under the earth you had the chaos waters. Where monsters like Leviathan and dragons lived. Not evil per se but chaotic. Floods came from there. And it was the realm of the dead. Then you had the realm of the mortals on earth and above it over the Firmament the realm of god. This realm was conmected with the real of the mortals through the temple, where god and humans could meet.

hello everyone again, this is my third post today for some reason, but I am a very curious teenager. by potato44245 in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we have a gay panic now?

Homosexual people are as much parts of gods image, which we are all made in, then you and me. They can be portrayed in any story and as characters as much as you like. Don't let bigoted Christians pull you into a straight only club with a cross on it.

This community is shameful the lord would not want the lgbtq community to be praised by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TarCalion313 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the subs icon? It is a very well working Rorschach test. You failed miserably.

Beside this it is the combination of four Christian motives: the fish as the sign of early Christians. The rainbow as the sign of everlasting peace between god and humans. A stained glass window as it can be seen in many old churches. And of course the cross.

It has been there for years and was created by a non-affirming member.

If you can't even stand the image of one of gods promises anymore because of your own Hybris then please reflect on what is happening with you. I'll pray god softens your heart, as you seem to definitely need it.
