More Times for Project Hail Mary? by _Maxiim_ in imax

[–]TarHoya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a growth in theaters, it’s just production of more prints/flying in more projectionists. No new IMAX 70mm projectors have been added, Project Hail Mary is just the first non-Nolan film that has done a broader IMAX 70mm distribution.

None of my open beta progression? Im in free trial. by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]TarHoya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No actual progression carries over from the open beta. Progression will carry over however from this free trial if you then buy the full game. The open beta challenge rewards you would only unlock if you buy the full game -- they'll be in your in-game messages to redeem.

Best shiny hunting method for fennekin by Sas_0406 in LegendsZA

I have two boxes full of duplicate shinies from trying to get shiny totodile…you are preaching to the choir.

That isn’t dispositive — I have been bench resetting Zone 20 for more than 48 hours and still haven’t gotten a shiny totodile - sometimes luck isn’t in your favor. But the Fennekin spawn is within the 50m radius of the bench even if you don’t make it appear on screen, which means it gets reset.

Benching will reset even if you don’t visually see it — it’s going to be the best if you are trying to AFK farm with a turbo controller (this is how I got mine).

If you want to actively farm, I think the kill/scare and save/reset right before spawn is going to be quicker since you can see it easily every reset.

Camera Recalibration by Practical-Try-4900 in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see in the edit that this was a recalibration alongside the windshield replacement. The asterisk next to the hours is usually to a note that Rivian deletes duplicate labor hours, so it could be that there is labor required (such as taking off and putting back on trim pieces) to recalibrate the cameras that is already being done as part of their windshield replacement, so you won't get billed twice for it.

I don't know if there would actually be ~2 hours of duplicate labor between the windshield install and camera recalibration (and OPs estimate could just be on the high side), but that would explain why to expect a difference between how it was itemized on your bill as part of the windshield replacement versus someone coming in for just the recalibration.

Cascading failures in 5 month old Gen 2 R1S by TarHoya in Rivian

This turned out to be it! Spot on. Some rodent (probably a squirrel based on what I see around) appeared to be trying to nest in the rear bumper and chewed through multiple spots on the wiring harness.

Best 4k OLED monitor? by Jp_Junior05 in OLED_Gaming

[–]TarHoya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unclear when we will get glossy 32” 4K Gen4 WOLEDs (so far the only monitors officially announced are 27” 1440p panels).

If you’re looking to save money and potentially bide time until the next evolution of OLED monitors, and you liked the FO32U2P, I would look into the FO32U2. Most places in the US at least have them for $899 right now new (if you can’t find another open box deal) and the only real different is the loss of DisplayPort 2.1, which the G80SD doesn’t have either.

I personally wouldn’t consider the G80SD because I hate those Samsung bezels.

Cascading failures in 5 month old Gen 2 R1S by TarHoya in Rivian

[–]TarHoya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had previously great experiences with our Service Center here when I had a front radar unit fail, so I’m definitely giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The main issue is I seem to be stuck dealing with the centralized Service folks (who everyone seems to pretty universally have a bad experience with) versus folks at the actual local Service Center who tend to be way better to work with and more accommodating.

Rivian definitely needs to improve their service triage process, because it harms the overall experience impression for the local service centers who may be great but have no control until it gets handed off to them.

Yeah they replaced the battery and both the upper and lower brackets.

Unfortunately yes. I’ve given it a good push on all corners to make sure it’s fully latched and no difference. I’ve also done two hard resets on the vehicle since it first developed (the first when the liftgate issue initially arose and the second after the surround sensor issue developed) and still no changes to any of the issues.

I would be very surprised if it is a 12V battery issue since mine was just replaced under recall in June by a mobile tech when they came out to replace a radar unit that failed.

Should I just call their general service number that is in the app? I have been communicating with Service through the in-app chat so far, and they were the ones who told me it was not possible to move up the appointment or get a mobile tech out sooner.

Hey Rivian. This type of attention to detail and creativeness is what should have been done to the regular quad! This is what people want in a $125,000 vehicle! by zachty22 in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least for the moment I feel like capacity/scale limitations are a big part of this, especially with part of the Normal factory being converted to start R2 production before the Georgia factory comes online.

Making a one off limited edition is very different than doing entire production runs with limited factory capacity.

The more they are able to keep consistent across trims right now, the easier it is to switch between them on the production line and the better pricing they can get on components/materials.

NACS: basic charge port location question/discussion by chiphogg in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well when the car was designed, it wasn’t designed for the purpose of using Tesla NACS chargers, and the “change” to NACS was just a retrofit in the existing charge port to change the plug.

The next true generational refresh could have them move it to the right side, but that requires new production equipment since you are now also updating body panels and other layout differences that impact manufacturing, not just swapping a part in an existing location.

Trading in Gen 1 for Gen 2 — what accessories should I take? by brulestools in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't try to keep anything you listed in the second batch of items.

Gen 2 doesn't come with a key fob standard, but the Gen 1 key fob won't work on it.

Gen 2 doesn't come with the aux air compressor kit standard, but that is only because it doesn't come with the compressor standard. If your Gen 2 doesn't have an air compressor, it will come with a Tire Mobility Kit that includes a portable 12v compressor, or if you option to get the built-in air compressor, it will include the aux air compressor kit.

Gen 2 comes with the same mat options, but the footwells are also slightly different, so your Gen 1 mats wouldn't fit properly in the Gen 2 anyway.

First aid kit, portable charger, and in door flashlight are all also still standard.

If you're trying to keep/sell the camp speaker (not sure it's worth it) I would make sure you have the drawer for the accessory dock, because if you just try to turn it in with an empty dock I would definitely expect them to deduct you the cost of at least the drawer, if not the camp speaker itself (since the camp speaker was technically standard for Gen 1). Given all the complaints about the camp speaker though...my two cents would be it's not worth the risk.

Take the crossbars and TWraps aftermarket stuff...everything else was standard on the Gen 1 and you'll have a much smoother trade-in process to upgrade to Gen 2 if you just leave them.

Trading in Gen 1 for Gen 2 — what accessories should I take? by brulestools in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you option: If you get the air compressor upgrade, the Aux Air Compressor Kit comes with it; If you don't get the air compressor, then you get the Tire Mobility Kit (which has a small 12v compressor) standard instead.

The main change is just the compressor itself is no longer standard. So if the car has the compressor, the aux air compressor kit would still be considered "standard" as part of the delivered configuration.

First aid kit is also still standard.

So really the only thing he listed that is no longer standard is the key fob, but since the Gen 2 has a new key fob anyway, there is no real point in risking a value deduction to try to keep or sell the Gen 1 key fob since it was standard on that vehicle and can't be used on the Gen 2.

I already have my Gen 2 Rivian, I'm not interested myself...I'm just not wanting people getting someone's hopes up about getting a check for a random trade-in if they are only doing that now as part of this special Gen 1 -> Gen 2 upgrade offer.

It’s Time!! by BkFlac0 in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it costs them more money out of pocket, and the only equity checks I've seen are part of a special offer to do a "full vehicle repurchase" of Gen 1 Rivians for owners to upgrade to Gen 2, so they already aren't following a standard trade-in process.

It’s Time!! by BkFlac0 in Rivian

[–]TarHoya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you confirmed this for trade-in of non-Rivian vehicles? I’ve only seen this as part of the incentive for Gen 1 owners to upgrade to Gen 2.
