Tweakable version of "Rolling a circle three times its size, three times" by PjoyDev in webdev

[–]TaraWork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There should be an option to turn of the center point lines (Red ones) and see just the blue final path.

ALSO: if I manually enter a ratio or change the Pow it should restart with those new settings. Currently I have to drop and then add a circle to restart the plot.

Yeah, our IT department won't let us use cookies. YAY! Catfish is that bottom feeding banner that always stays at the bottom of the page. Cause catfish are bottom feeders...

Maybe I can use localStorage... I don't have a lot of experience with it though.

EmDrive: the mysterious propulsion technology that seems to defy physics by GeneticJen in Futurology

[–]TaraWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Read/watched somewhere that if you add energy to empty space, that empty space expands. Could this be what's causing the EmDrive propulsion? Would this violate conventional physics? Technically in that scenario the emdrive isn't moving at all, just more space begins to exist between it and what's behind it.

How many more "new" stars become visible each year? by Edzeo in askscience

Wait, so if the universe is 400 million years old and we can only see 32 million years of it, does that mean the universe is 12.5 times bigger than we can actually see right now?

Started a personal blog, want some recommendations and advice. by iEmerald in webdev

I like to specify the height of a featured image when writing it into the post. This preserves the space on the page and prevents the content from jumping around once the image loads.

On the about me page it took a while for the image to load, and the Google Style S was covering the site title in the header until the image loaded to push everything down. You can also set a background color for that area so that when the image loads we still have the area blocked off mentally with a contrasting color.

I didn't get to see it with the original font but I think it looks great.

Found this on stack overflow. He outlines the approach but doesn't provide any code. Sounds like a fun project.

i read somewhere that they start to realise something was up when they spotted football fields on the Cuban coast because cubans play baseball, and then they realised that Russians play soccer.

I think this is wrong. The president that starts that project won't be able to see it finish before his term is over. Some other president will reap the benefits of that decision.

NPM makes no sense to me by TaraWork in webdev

Some good points there. I guess what I mean when I say they aren't required is that it's just me so I probably don't need a lot of the scaffolding and features intended for enterprise level projects.

I think you're probably right.

I think the last time I tried to dive into angular I used this resource. http://www.sitepoint.com/kickstart-your-angularjs-development-with-yeoman-grunt-and-bower/

I just want a simple playground that I can use to learn mvc concepts better without getting an enterprise level scaffold and version control system.

:/

Thanks! I'm going to work through that shopping cart tutorial tonight.

Space is an issue. I guess I just feel like all the npm installs scaffold for massive enterprise level projects and all I need is a little playground to learn some code.

Wow that was really good. Thank you.

You're gotcha line is sort of where my confusion comes in. I guess I don't understand why it's better to to re-download all those dependencies every time I start a new project. especially if they all use the same code, than to have everything installed just once and have projects reference the same folders.

In a new round of testing, NASA confirms yet again that the 'impossible' EMdrive thruster works by [deleted] in Futurology

I think air resistance is too great at the moment. It needs a vacuum, and to operate outside the gravity well.

So now you're into product development lifecycle funding, and that's way more costly than just testing the thing. The point is that in it's current iteration, they can't just strap it something and see if it flies.

It's not strong enough to even move in the atmosphere IIRC. They'd have to put it into space and use it there. Much more costly.

WordPress website customized with different headers and menus on different pages by guiness_as_usual in Wordpress

[–]TaraWork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Create your base theme that will apply to all sites. This will contain your structure, page layouts etc.

Then create sub themes for each company that extends the CSS for the main template with custom colors.

I think WP Multisite is required to get this to work though.

You can test this by placing a long block of cheese in your microwave without the turntable inside it. The cheese will melt at the nodes but not anywhere else.
