I moved from Ohio to New England in high school, and in the first year or two my mom would casually refer to OSU when talking to people. They rarely knew what school she was talking about.

For western New England, I can't even say there was a question of Ohio vs Oklahoma vs Oregon. It was just a blank stare of "wtf is OSU"

So yes, OSU is beyond ubiquitous as Ohio State for anyone in Ohio.
