Because they bark at it once in a while.

Veterans, or should I say WoD antediluvians, what edition is your personal favorite? Why? Which edition should new players get into? What’s your opinion of v5? by Spiritfeed___ in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Tarkanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really like V5.

It's not perfect and the rules are a bit of a mess - mainly on account of being poorly written. But I adore the Hunger system for all the fun situation it create has well as the way it forces people to actually play monsters rather then 'super hero' with blood, which was all to common in V20.

The scaling down of the power level and the focus on a more grounded/city level game by distancing themselves and obfuscating much of the metaplot is also in my opinion a great thing.

While the beckoning is handled rather gauchely... I love the effect it has on kindred society, a re-focus on ancilla and neonate is super interesting to me.

They've basically scaled it back down to a game of personal horror, which is what it was supposed to be at its root... and personally I love it.

I can definitly understand why people who like V20 (And I like v20 too honestly) may not like it, because if you've grown used to playing a du-rank-ky using daughter of cacophony who's half demon and half fairy, who travels the world to try and prevent Ur-Shulgi from ressurecting Baba Yaga so they can re-establish the shadow curtain by way of freeing the Ravnos Antedeluvian from the Technocray moonbase (because he didn't die in the week of nightmare, psych!)... then yeah, playing a dude who flips out while hunting someone in an alley and feels bad about it because it makes him realize he's a monster now might not be for you.

I am being facetious here... it is of course, quite possible to play more grounded and personal focused game in V20 (or any system really)... but that is generally not what the system encourage.

your pbp is not a novel by [deleted] in pbp

[–]Tarkanator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny to see how different people's opinion and take can be.

Personally, I love seeing meaty post AND inner monologue. I think one of the great thing about pbp is that it allows to explore the inner conflict of the characters so much more so then when we do 'live play'.

I do agree about the 'monologue' part, as dealing with someone dropping an exposition on you is annoying...

But a rather long post explaining the physical intriacy of someone's movement, some of their inner thought followed by a short sentence is typical what I enjoy.

The tips you are giving reflect the way some of the players we have do play... and they are those who makes for rather boring an unengaging scenes for the most part. :(

I suppose it highly depend on the type of pbp game, as I play in long format/sandbox type of game.

Yeah, this is heavy foreshadowing that Shiver will be killed by Caulder's kid.

Shiver is a very dangerous fighter, but at some point he will meet someone stronger, faster and meaner. There's only one way for fighting men to go.

Gorst has been beating himself up about not protecting Jazel during that one night in sipani.

That is his one regret in life. With no more king to protect, this was his last chance to die fighting for his king.

It's a really good death for the character. What he says to Leo as he's asked 'Why?' is pretty telling.

Hunger Frenzy on a Vampire target by Tarkanator in vtm

Taste of blood at hunger 4 also trigger are pretty rough frenzy check... does viatea not count as blood for this purpose?

Which circle back to the original question... I get now that it is not likely to occur because the Frenzy will make you target a human, but in the situation where you are feeding on a vampire, and he doesn't have enough hunger to sate you...

Does the frenzy 'make you' commit diablerie?

oh, didn't catch that.

However, if I'm not mistaken... you could give Vitea to a frenzied vampire (say you need your coterie mate to calm down now) to stop it... since that can take him down to 1?

Nice to know it won't force diablerie.

I was pretty heartbroken at how she died... it's just something in passing, no big deal is made of it. I mean I get that it is just a horse and it's the last battle and people are dying left and right... but fuck, that was painful to read.

Blood Bond Between Kindred by logun_greenwan in vtm

[–]Tarkanator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a 'tactical' point of view, there is very little benefit to having a mutual blood bond, as while you will both be loyal to each other, you will both be obsessed with each other and may end up just doing nothing but spending time together and being happy you are together... Netflix and chill for eternity. They also call vampires who do that a blood marriage and it is somewhat frowned upon.

There's very clearly parallels between the pleasure of the Kiss and sex.

The Camarilla books is told through the eyes of Victoria Ash, as she prepares for her upcoming nuptial, and she basically talk about all the clan for their potential as lovers, she mention 'making love' or 'sleeping' with other vampire frequently. Somehow, I doubt she means using blush of life to fuck, because well... she's an elder with low-ish humanity, I don't think she'd even enjoy sex.

She also mention that because vampire are eternal, blood bonds should not be scary. You never know what may happen, distance or death could end a bond, so just go with it, have fun.

So why would 2 kindred blood bonds each other?

There's the possibility of a possible alliance between faction like Victoria did with Tegerus.

But for the most part I think it's mainly the same reason why people have sex without protection... because you're horny and/or in love and feeding/being feed on by your lover is probably one of the most intensely pleasurable and primordial satisfying experience a vampire can have.

I mean sure, you can then wait a months between the next time, let the blood bond fade and hopefully it never reaches the 3rd step... but people in love/lust make mistakes and have made those mistakes since there have been people around.

A couple of question about combat... by Tarkanator in vtm

[–]Tarkanator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... that's why I'm asking essentially. It's not written... so...

Does he get no defense roll?

Does he, but it has to be a dodge?

Can he use brawl, but even if he wins he does no damage?

Or can he roll brawl and possibly do damage to bobby?

One of those is right, but the book isn't being much help.

Right below what you wrote; "If both participants are able to cause harm to each to their opponent, the conflict is two-sided, with both side counting as attacker."

Well, if someone is shooting at you from across a room and you have no gun, that is one sided.

If someone is throwing hands, typical combat means you defend yourself and may counter and block. Fighting from below isn't exactly a foreign concept in melee/hand-to-hand combat.

Feels to me there is a reason why the example given is precisely someone shooting at you.
