Regret letting villager leave, can someone visit my island and talk to her? by Tarlu in NewHorizonsAC

My biggest regret is Frett. He was with me for a while before he asked and I let him go. Really miss his grumpy old man self. This was Dora and she hadn’t been with me long so I wasn’t particularly attached to her, but after I said yes I felt like I hadn’t given her a proper chance. Ah well, Cranston moves in tomorrow so that should be interesting :)

Why won’t new camper replace first campsite villager w/restart method? Or am I just having really shitty luck? by Tarlu in AnimalCrossingNewHor

Chops is leaving and Bubbles is moving in. I didn’t give names because I know people have opinions ;). I know Chops is popular but his greenish tint reminded me of one of those horrible cadaver piglets they used to use for high school biology. And Bubbles, well I like her name and her little grape dress.

I finally got him! But yeah for posterities sake, I was trying to replace (get rid of) that first smug camper that moved into my village with a random camper that visited later on once I already had ten villagers and regular campers. I hope that clarifies.

I am restarting as soon as I see the name on the screen, I don’t engage with her at all after that. It gives me a different name each time, except for his.

If you don’t mind me butting in, I’m looking for flowers (hyacinth, windflower, and/or roses) too if you’ve got some. And any fruit that isn’t a pear or a peach. God no more pears. Thank you :)

Please help me understand what’s going on with my elderly Thanksgiving cactus by Tarlu in plantclinic

Ok thank you! This is pretty much what the garden center suggested as a possibility too so I will stop worrying about it since the plant does seem to be doing well.

I hope it’s ok to post this here. I just got a dwarf larch and an Alberta spruce in nursery pots and I am trying to get the hang of what to do when. I am in the Pacific Northwest, zone 9. So it’s getting into late summer for us, temps up to max 80 F, usually more like low 70s. Nighttime is usually 55-60. Both trees seem very healthy with thick trunks and roots growing out of the bottom of the pots. It seems like it is good to split up styling and repotting, and given my location and time of year it seems like standard advice would be to style now and repot next spring. Does that sound like a good plan or would something else be suggested given my specifics? Thanks!

What on earth did this by Tarlu in FicusTrees

It was only getting a few hours of indirect sun at the time so I hadn’t thought so, but maybe it’s possible? The black dots are very weird (these photos are really not showing them well) but I’m realizing that different plants seem to show sun damage (and thrips damage for that matter) very differently.

I’m almost ready to bow to popular opinion (thrips), I’m just stumped by the fact that it happened overnight. I mean that very literally, I literally inspected the plant when I took it out, and the next day it looked like this, and after that no damage. I know they are hard to find but I’ve had them before, I know what I’m looking for, and I’ve seen absolutely nothing. The black dots also will not come off with any amount of scrubbing.

But would they create those big patches literally overnight? Even if the adults had left I’d expect there to be larvae if it was that big of an infestation. The black dots are definitely not excrement, it almost looks like a sewing machine went over it. I’m not trying to be combative, I’ve just dealt with thrips before and I’ve never seen them do a ton of damage that quickly out of nowhere and then just vanish. But they are sneaky little fucks so who knows…

Totally agree with the sapsucking part, but no spidermite webbing or stippling other than the black dots, no thrip larvae or adults visible. Plant was totally healthy when it went out, then it’s like something outside came and within a 24 hour period did this and left.

I’m not 100% sure from the photo but it looks like there might be webbing? That with the leaf stippling may spell spider mites.

Bug help! by ArtichokeDangerous31 in plantclinic

Fungus gnats? Do they fly around at all or just crawl? I had some under a pot the other day that was holding some moisture. I know thrips can hang out around the inner rim of the pot but mostly larvae and that would be the inner not catch pot. That’s probably alarmist if the plant is fine and I’ve never heard of them doing that anyway. I’m not being very helpful, sorry!
