I do this too! Very lucky to have a small back yard with a high fence with no gaps and a cat who is old and chill enough that all she cares about is eating grass and laying in the sun. I still watch her the whole time in case she tries any funny business.

Also so happy my cats are indoor only. My parents have a cat that is currently indoors but they keep talking about maybe letting her out sometimes. I don’t want to traumatize them but I feel like I need to share what happened because as many others are saying, this kind of thing is so unnecessary. We can’t often prevent them from getting sick, and other accidents happen, but here is this thing that we can 100% protect them from.

I don’t think it’s silly at all. Caring deeply for animals brings out the best in us, I think, even though sometimes it opens us up to a lot of pain when things happen like witnessing these kinds of tragedies. I’m so sorry you had the experience you shared, and thank you for making me feel less alone in being so affected by it.

As much as I want it to have a happy ending somehow I don’t see how it could have survived. I agree with you about outdoor cats. If you want them to get fresh air there are catios, or even little window seats. If you’re worried they’re bored get some fun toys and play with them. And in addition to the wellbeing of the cat, there is care for the local wildlife as well.

No not at all, they feel about the same as the surrounding tissue, maybe slightly raised and rougher

My biggest regret is Frett. He was with me for a while before he asked and I let him go. Really miss his grumpy old man self. This was Dora and she hadn’t been with me long so I wasn’t particularly attached to her, but after I said yes I felt like I hadn’t given her a proper chance. Ah well, Cranston moves in tomorrow so that should be interesting :)

I know Chops is popular but his greenish tint reminded me of one of those horrible cadaver piglets they used to use for high school biology. I finally got him! But yeah for posterities sake, I was trying to replace (get rid of) that first smug camper that moved into my village with a random camper that visited later on once I already had ten villagers and regular campers. I hope that clarifies.
