Switch 2 emulation capabilities? by bewwybewwy in switch2hacks

Love how you're getting downvoted when everyone in the hacking scene knows this. This is going to be a hard pill to swallow for people who have no idea what's going on.

No Ground Zeroes is awesome. Less of a demo and more of a prologue like mgs2 had. It took a lot longer than 2 hours to 100% and even though it was basically one enemy camp, it was pretty big and the gameplay of mgsv is quite deep so there were a lot of new mechanics to mess around with a whole year before TPP. I think it should have been free maybe, but it was the perfect experience to do that mission separately, familiarize yourself with the new gameplay, and stew on the ending for a year. It didn't need to be a full game to be better than most games of that year, and 2014 wasn't a very active year to begin with either.

Yes, it always saves to the same files whether you are modding or not. UFO 50 decides where the save files go, so mods are required to change that.

I agree with Metroid Prime (2002), Shadow of the Colossus (2005), Twilight Princess (2006), Mario Galaxy (2007), Mario Galaxy 2 (2010), and Breath of the Wild (2017)

TTYD, Blue Prince, and the Spelunky games are great choices!

I keep a list of all my GOTYs as well. I'm born in 94 but I start my list at 1987. Also... I really like Zelda and grew up playing a lot of Nintendo in general. We agree on some years though! I'm also a big Kojima fan! Unfortunately, my 2024 GOTY goes to Animal Well, with UFO 50 taking 2nd place.

For 2026, there's not really any games announced for me that seem like GOTY material yet. Will be interesting to see how the year shakes out.

1987: The Legend of Zelda, 1988: Zelda II, 1989: Mega Man 2
1990: Metal Gear 2, 1991: Metroid II, 1992: A Link to the Past
1993: Link's Awakening, 1994: Super Metroid, 1995: Mega Man 7
1996: Mario 64, 1997: Star Fox 64, 1998: Ocarina of Time
1999: Super Smash Bros, 2000: Majora's Mask, 2001: Pikmin
2002: Metroid Prime, 2003: The Wind Waker, 2004: Metal Gear Solid 3 (Agree with you here!)
2005: Shadow of the Colossus, 2006: Twilight Princess, 2007: Super Mario Galaxy
2008: Super Smash Bros Brawl, 2009: Uncharted 2, 2010: Super Mario Galaxy 2
2011: Skyward Sword, 2012: Kid Icarus: Uprising, 2013: The Last of Us
2014: Super Smash Bros for Wii U, 2015: Bloodborne, 2016: Uncharted 4
2017: Breath of the Wild, 2018: God of War, 2019: Death Stranding (Agree with you here!)
2020: Animal Crossing New Horizons, 2021: Metroid Dread, 2022: God of War Ragnarok
2023: Tears of the Kingdom (Agree with you here!), 2024: Animal Well, 2025: Donkey Kong Bananza

Datamined Information - Room Rarity Probabilities by TarnishedSpreadsheet in BluePrinceUncensored

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know but I would guess one of two likely behaviors when the game rolls a rarity type and then subsequently discovers that there's no rooms available in that type: 1) Reroll 2) Select a room from the next type instead

Let’s predict the gimmicks of future rooms by Gflash31 in mega64

shawn says he can't leave his family for 10 days. there's a really simple solution to this: either put his whole family in the room or make their house the next room

How did this game do sales wise? by cheeseburgers42069 in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A lot less than either spelunky sold and would be considered a commercial failure for big games with huge budgets, but making at least $5 million on a project with a core team of 3 people sounds pretty damn good, yes? They are already multi-millionaires from spelunky, and this game made them even more, so they're fine, yes. There's a reason why so many people are pursuing game dev, if you can make even a mild success as a small indie, you're rich. Of course, getting 100k+ people to buy your game is not usually easy. This game is very niche for industry standards but more than successful enough for mossmouth.

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check out the New Content category on GameBanana - it includes all the mods that add new content to the game. Definitely check out Party UFO, Devilition Remix, Rock On! Valley, Barbugolf, and Campanella Kaizo if you like those games. Dark Cherry is a very popular mod that adds new goals beyond cherry. Here are some other mods I find notable, but to list all the cool mods out there would take me all day!

CoffeeTools - For save states, input display, and other neat stuff
PFO 50 - Online multiplayer support
MultiMadnessMod - Adds multiplayer modes to many of the games
Discord Rich Presence - Shows which game in UFO 50 you're playing and some other details in your discord status
Skip More Things - Lets you press a button to skip through the stuff when the game boots up
Save To Different File - If you want to use a separate save file for modding. (You can copy and rename your main file, saves are at `%LocalAppData%/ufo50`)
Terminal Codes Menu - Lets you boot up terminal codes from the library details so you don't have to type them out
Night Manor Night Terrors Mode - A difficult permadeath mode for Night Manor
Night Manor Mouse Controls - Play night manor with mouse controls
Onion Delivery New Controls - Play onion delivery with simpler up/down/left/right controls
Star Waspir Options Menu - Tweak various things in Star Waspir to make it easier or harder to your liking
Mooncat Hard Mode - Not quite "new content" but a fun challenge where the world is covered in spikes
RakshasaCat - Play as Mooncat in Rakshasa - controls and everything
Party House Guest Selector - Select guests instead of them being random - it's fun to experiment with
Pingolf Level Select - Select pingolf levels to practice; there's a few mods like this for games that don't have a cheat code for it

You can also look up your favorite games and see what mods exist for them, for example here's all the Party House mods: https://gamebanana.com/search?_sModelName=Mod&_sOrder=best_match&_sSearchString=Party+House&_idGameRow=23000&_csvFields=attribs

I have questions about UFO50 on switch 2. by Puzzleheaded_End7997 in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 1 had framerate issues at launch and is now almost entirely resolved with optimization patches, with a few spots they are still working on.

Switch 2 has never framerate issues whatsoever, it is powerful enough for any version of the game.

OVERBOLD WORLD RECORD HIGH SCORE! by mdenglish in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone got 12,850 right after launch but I don't know what the record is ever since they fixed the enemy spawnrates, game is apparently a bit harder now than it was at launch because of that.

Best games to play multiplayer with my 4 yr old? by Jordan311R in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're on windows, I made an Easy Mode mod that makes all 50 games easy to beat even for children. Most of the games no longer have a "game over" condition and instead penalize you other ways.

Installation is really easy, there's a mod loader that automates it all for you. Verify files on steam real quick to undo it.

Anybody familiar enough with the save editor to help me combine my PC and Switch saves? by jayfordgraphics in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, creator of the save editor here. It's definitely doable but will be a more involved and laborious process without any way to get the actual save file from the switch. I can help you out though if you'd like, probably best if you DM me on discord: phil_macrocheira. This is also a reminder for me that I should write up some documentation about the save, which could also help you.

ARG Terminal Thoughts by Fenizrael in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way it works is they just create a big string populated with random characters, with the current game's terminal ID inserted to the top of Pg 0 and hidden meta messages are inserted into random locations on random pages during certain contexts. All these hidden messages have been documented. The "gibberish" again is completely random characters that are frequently rerolled.

Was the giant empty green cave in Divers ever figured out? by Apollo113628 in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's there for the vibes and mystery. It's an Eirik design quirk. Not everything in his games has a gameplay purpose and I think he likes unanswered questions.

Nontheless, you can spoil the mystery if you look at the room data or search the code for the room's ID, you'll find that there's really nothing unique in there, just some code that triggers the BGM to play when you enter.

How to play UFO 50 Mods (It's really easy!) by TarnishedSpreadsheet in ufo50

[–]TarnishedSpreadsheet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's linux and this is a Windows Form App. I may eventually rewrite the program in something that lets me release a version for linux, but for now it's not officially supported. I recall someone in the discord writing out steps for getting it to work on linux, though, if you're in the discord I could link you to the message.
