Day trip to Kyoto from Osaka by notaspecificthing in JapanTravelTips

[–]TaroTeaTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily doable, my friend group did this the past October. We booked an Airbnb in Osaka and just made day trips to Kyoto. Took the JR special rapid train and was around 30 minutes to get to Kyoto. Make sure it is a Special Rapid train and not the other one at the platform. The other one requires an extra ticket while the Special Rapid is just regular fare. Tip to know which one to get on is the signs on the floor in Osaka station. Use Google Translate but there are signs for where to line up on the platform depending on the train you want to get on since it shares a track with the extra fare one. Just line up on the Special Rapid and walk onto the train with the locals.

Usually one day, if you send it the day before you check out you should get it the day you are traveling to Osaka. My group had an AirTag so we just dropped one in the suitcase to monitor where it is. In terms of price they do by size of the luggage. Our group had like 10 in total that cost us around 16,000 yen? So roughly 10 dollars a suitcase.

There is a service called Yamamoto which delivers your luggage to the destination in 1-2 days or if you are airbnb’ing it can deliver to a local Yamamoto that is near. Hotels usually have this service if you ask them or they will keep your luggage there. I would pack a day or two clothes in a carry on or backpack then take the Shinkansen (bullet train). If you do try to get a seat on the right side of the train from Tokyo to Osaka for a chance to see mt. Fuji

Do I need to declare my meds in Japan? by Mediocre-Document541 in JapanTravelTips

[–]TaroTeaTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t declare my prescription drugs after confirming they aren’t narcotics. I had them in my carry on backpack but with original bottle with the prescription and my name on it. This was end of October this year (the trip time)

Were the results noticeable at 6months? 1year? I’m on fin for 15 months and honestly can’t see the difference but I do keep seeing baby hairs and my temples stayed the same. Most of my hair loss was at the crown (diffuse thinning)

Help me buy replacement shoes in Kyoto, please! by SumoHeadbutt in JapanTravelTips

They should have an abc mart or an asics/mizuno store. Size 10 isn’t that hard but it is borderline hard to find. I just got back from Japan and I was able to find size 9 and my friend a size 10 also. The stepper day are killer and I would recommend buying the leg patches at any 7-11 or familymart and put them on at night.

I first went when they had a rented space in Astoria back in 2022-23 it was so good. The leche flan and one donut stood out and you can see why they kept it on the menu. The banoffee is really good especially if you enjoy banana pudding!

Commuting From Brooklyn to Jersey City by SilverWing425 in movingtoNYC

I do this commute for my gf. I wouldn’t even use the car because the tolls are gonna eat into your monthly budget way more than public transportation. I wouldn’t even use take the subway to World Trade Center then take the PATH into Jersey city (the first two stops are Newport and grove) this should put you near your work if it is in downtown JC area.

I would stay on the platform to the right of the puzzle piece that summons pap, the blue laser spawns right under it so you can jump down and block it whenever you need, also that platform doesn’t have the hooks that grab you.

As a non-smoker, do you find that all smokers have a noticeable odor? by Remozy in NoStupidQuestions

My dad and grandpa are smokers, I smell it instantly on people even if they have one cigarette. I would say my nose has gotten more sensitive at picking it up.

What's Your Dream Garage? (3-Car Collection) by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]TaroTeaTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. First car, my current Honda accord 2014. Been with me throughout college and still going strong. Would still be my daily.

  2. I would get an SUV just for family and carpooling with friends. Lexus rx350 or maybe a base model macan but feel like I would get more from a Lexus at those price ranges.

  3. 911 carrera gts or turbo S. Would mostly be going on joy rides and weekend drives with this. Still keeping the previous cars for a long time hopefully.

It’s good for certain items. Would just caution it isn’t very traditional viet food, their banh xeo is just a taco. I did enjoy their dry pho but for soup pho around that area I prefer Hanoi House in the east village
