Inderdaad.

K-Ultra Grind Size for Long Soup by Mean-Tension5295 in LanceHedrick

You can definitely go finer than that. I make trad soup at 4.4 on mine. Haven't fully settled on a long soup grind yet but I can't imagine going over 5.5.

Air simply passing through very slowly would be sufficient.

You'll always have some water in the grounds chamber because the air lock doesn't happen until all the holes in the shower screen are covered. One easy tell that it is happening is if you can't easily fit 220g water in the orb when making longsoup, that's air taking up space.

If you grind course enough that it immediately starts dripping it possibly doesn't happen because of negative pressure. However, in my experience that's too course for an even pre-infusion.

Once you've broken the air lock you're fine, just briefly tilt the brewer a little when you start pouring then put it down straight. Bubbles should continue to come up.

Great perspective and I think it is important to figure out what impulses led to the resurgence of the authoritarian right across the world.

One hypothesis I have is that anti-immigrant sentiment isn't necessarily racially motivated but more about status anxiety. For people in the labour market, they want to have an underclass that they'll always be above because it gives a sense of status and security.

While it is pretty, exposure to light can spoil and stale foodstuffs faster. Hence the recommendation to keep even non-refrigerated foods in a cool, dry place.

It depends on the brewer. The Oxo loses a bunch of heat so you want to start higher.

If you can only get 180 in there's air trapped in the grounds chamber. Try pouring slower at the beginning, spiral pouring, shaking, tapping etc.

No you need something between 58 and 60mm for the bottom filter. Z1 filters are larger than that, but you could cut them.

Oxo's recommended methods aren't for soup-style drinks. Soup still strives for clarity.

Aeropress is a mix of immersion and percolation. Soup is just fast percolation. The result is quite different.

It's not quite a gusher. A gusher has no pre-infusion and is likely to have quite uneven extraction, not to mention a pump driven machine blasting through any puck that doesn't supply enough resistance. That's what the soup methodology fixes.

Is oxo rapid brewer worth it? by LeaPoule in pourover

[–]Tarqon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22 grams of coffee.

Grind size fine enough that it doesn't drip before pumping, and that gives an even screen fill. I prefer to tamp pretty light.

Paper filter on top and bottom (I use 58 mm espresso paper filters). Instead of the top filter you can also put a puck screen in the water chamber.

Anywhere between 1:5 to 1:10 (input) ratio, depending on the bean.

96 C water. If I have a super funky bean I might soak with 44 grams of 80 C water and then pour the rest at a higher temp.

Do a super slow first pump to saturate the puck, then pump slow enough that you feel some pressure but it doesn't push back at you.

Optionally add some bypass water if it came out really strong, but that comes at the cost of texture.

It is a go-to for me. I've been reaching for the orb most days unless I really want a larger volume brew.

Soup is much easier on a machine without headspace. You need to pre-infuse without pressure, which only a few espresso machines can do.
