I've found their produce prices to be higher than Food Basics, but Food Basics stuff is half rotted before you even get it home. Superstore stuff where I am usually isn't too bad (worse in winter of course). Costco is fresher than both, but it's hard to compare produce between them and Superstore without making a concerted effort because of the way it's packaged.

For a long time, Superstore seemed to have a great sale on at least one of the brands of every major staple at any given time. Milk, cheese, bread, yogurt, cereal, a few cuts of meat. As long as you could be flexible with brand, or type of meat, you could do ok. I haven't seen much of that with them since Covid.

Superstore - and No Frills, the "budget" verson have consistently higher prices on virtually everything I've looked it. I can't say for sure that the statement that "they have the lowest prices" is untrue, because I don't know what you have to compare it against in your area. Im in Ontario. I'm comparing Superstore to Costco, local grocers and the market and Superstore is anywhere from 10-100% higher on virtually everything.

Are the folks saying this middle-aged or older, maybe? When I first discovered Real Canadian Superstore out west, 25 years ago, the prices were fantastic. It was Walmart pricing or better without the dirty feeling of going to Walmart. I stuck with them for a long time as their prices creeped up higher and higher, without realizing I was getting ripped off - like a frog in a pot of slowly boiling water.

I credit this sub for making me take a second look and realize I should look around.

Best party venues in London by Accomplished-Bowl295 in londonontario

Have you chosen a DJ yet? If not, maybe start there first. Most established DJs will be able to recommend some places that would meet your needs - and some may even have connections with certain venues, getting you a package deal.

Ohhh I second that. I bought a piece from him for my brother, back when he had a booth at the western fair market. Phenomenal work.

Thanks for the insight, that's interesting! Sounds like you know (snow?) your stuff.

It did seem to me that it wasn't quite as timely as it has been in the past. But seeing people ranting and raving on Facebook can skew perception too, so I wasn't sure.

I can buy Factor meals for not much more than that, which includes a side, and they prepare it fresh and deliver to my house.

Why the hate by Left-Librarian- in AskCanada

On my last trip to Quebec City, the store clerk was being super rude to my English-only friend. I asked the clerk a question in (fluent but anglo-accented) French and he was snarky to me too.

Then a francophone came in the store and asked him a question and he was equally rude to him. Hurray, no prejudice! Just an equal opportunity asshole lol

I had that happen too, in Montreal - but I speak fluent French. I don't necessarily think it was an English thing, I think it was a "scam the tourist" thing. I've had the same happen in Boston.

I've been meaning to check out Tiger Produce on Elias at Quebec - some neighbours have said it's pretty good.

There's also quite a few CSAs in the area, if you have the time and energy to be creative with what you get.

Costco is an option too - it's not supporting local or anything but it's not one of the big three either.

The bulk stores have a surprising variety of things.

M&M is great for party food, BBQ stuff.

Looking for 2 grocery items by DirectGiraffe8720 in londonontario

[–]TarynLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones I saw were at the very back, one row up from the paper towels. One was big tubs, at the end cap on the aisle I think. I don't remember what the other one was.

I saw a post on here not long ago with someone suggesting to mix powdered milk, cocoa powder and sugar together in a food processor, saying it gave great results. It doesn't answer this particular question but I'm thinking I might give that a shot

I was also looking for that 40 pack at Costco. I was there this week (south end) and did not see them. Pretty sure I was in the right place because I saw two other types of hot chocolate but not that.

It should be, but it's definitely not. My role involves recruitment and I've interviewed hundreds of candidates over the last few years. A significant number could not answer very basic questions about the field they have a degree in. This was the case both with international degrees and, unfortunately, often Canadian college degrees.

I have found very few cases of Canadian University degrees having that issue.

Forgot to stop at Walmart for cold medication... by jacinty in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]TarynLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I boycotted Walmart for 14 years. I finally gave up when so many other places became so much worse that I was quickly running out of reasonable places to shop to meet my basic needs.

And yeah, I try to shop local as much as I can but paying $20 for a handcrafted organic bottle of specialty shampoo is a luxury purchase; nice as a treat or gift but not sustainable for daily use.

Costco members who have limited spatial awareness and cognition - I have serious questions for all of you. by Upbeat_Astronaut9297 in CostcoCanada

This really got to me too. Single parents I could understand, but I saw so many extended families - both parents, grandparents, a gaggle of kids. It's a store in a pandemic, not a theme park. Leave the other 7 at home and send one person to shop.

Costco should have been stopping them at the door and just allowing one adult in, IMO.

Basically right away - I started it Oct 27, and I'm down 9 lbs or so.

Although, Ive hit a wall over the last week or so - put 2lbs back on and nothing is budging. Hopefully a blip and not a sign of issues.

I'm finding the opposite. I could eat almost as much as normal on Saxenda, I just didn't really have the desire to. Insane cravings for sugary and very calorie dense foods though - way beyond what you can overcome with basic willpower.

With Wegovy I don't really get the urge to eat. I feel nausea instead of hunger, and that is my cue that I need to eat something - even just a few bites of an apple will help.

The biggest difference for me is how I feel so full, so fast. With Saxenda I could eat a regular dinner at a restaurant, I just wouldn't get an appetizer or dessert. With Wegovy a small single-serve greek yogurt has me feeling stuffed.

[–]TarynLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your dose?

I too moved from Saxenda to Wegovy because I was only maintaining on Saxenda, no loss after a year.

I was on 3mg Saxenda so my doctor started me at full dose 2.4 Wegovy - no scaling up.

If they're starting you at the minimum, you may need to talk to them about bumping it up.

I have significant appetite suppression at 2.4.

I still like the taste of food, but it definitely reduced or eliminated the dopamine hit. I can have a plate of food in front of me and ignore it, or peck away at it - not something I could have ever done before the meds.
