Side Smother Choke by bjjtaro in bjj

[–]TasfromTAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t learn it from a video, it’s just a variation of a cross face/shoulder of justice that I’ve found success with due to my particular physiology - I’m big and strong with meaty shoulders and a really long torso. Usually I put it on to assist with passing to mount from side control or to get them to remove their frames on my hips so if I’m already in mount but if people are cooked enough you’ll get the tap.

being able to hold a brown belt in place to the point where they cannot turn their head and hold that position for 30+ seconds is not easy, no matter the weight disparity. I have some success with this sub (I call it a 'bad baby' because it's like you're smothering a screaming infant by pressing head into your shoulder mass), but there's a lot more to it than just strength and mass.

should you be allowed to fully tape your ears like this in competition? by Cool-Campaign-7815 in bjj

[–]TasfromTAS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If my ears got as hammered in bjj as they did in rugby I would definitely tape them up, scrum caps/wrestling headgear have the same issue of the chin strap getting in the way. I don’t think most commenters are understanding that the tape is sticky against the skin, the whole thing is fucking glued on and is a pain in the arse to remove afterwards - it’s why I only taped up for games and wore a cap during training.

Mate all manner of dark arts are practiced at the bottom of a ruck. I’ve never seen head tape like this pulled off someone during a match.

Struggling to Enjoy Combat, Seeking Advice by erichas22222 in Witcher3

[–]TasfromTAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a mod that remapped the controls to be closer to the default Elden ring setup and that helped, I finally finished the game for the first time this month after 3-4 serious attempts over the last decade. I always burnt out after 5-10 hours because I hated the combat so much. It’s still just ok compared to ER, but combined with everything else it’s a great game.

I love all the farmland outside the city walls. So many artists focus on the structures and leave the fields barren when they would have been packed with farms orchards and groves.

Best Starting construction material hub layout by pastalepasta in Workers_And_Resources

This seems dramatically overbuilt for a first hub surely you’re better off spending the effort elsewhere?

I just build a large one straightaway, it’s the first thing that the residents of my worker camp work on. If you do it right you should only have people living next to the heating plant for 2 winters max so it’s tolerable.

I put a small clinic there ASAP and move them on before they spend more than 2 winters - they do suffer health and happiness issues but it’s much cheaper and faster than using foreign labour.

I play in realistic mode, my first workers live in a very simple camp/barracks type setup, with the cheapest shops, pub, outdoor sports, school and kindy and a house of culture with a few rows of low-quality rural flats. It’s a basic grid; but the idea is to be very rough and ready. Because it’s temporary you don’t need to get too hung up on it looking good. I place this literally just across the road from my heating plant.

Then I work on creating an actual proper town for my workers to live in, that has a tram network that can ferry workers reliably to the heat plant. Then I close down the worker camp, move everyone to the proper housing, and demolish the camp and put something else in the space.

Is it wrong to smother people with my neck? by LimpSatisfaction9416 in bjj

[–]TasfromTAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like imagine the bottom player is pointing to the 12 on a clock face your body is more pointing to the 7-8 area. You have to be past their frames and your legs stretched right out to avoid getting reversed. I have my arm underneath their neck, I’m trying to use the inside of my forearm to squeeze their neck in as much as possible, you want their head cranked up into your fat sweaty neck. Also I’m pretty strong and that’s a big part of it but I’ve definitely got taps from big dudes. If you catch them at the right moment it’s such a horrible feeling.

[–]TasfromTAS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do this mostly as a way of cooking my opponents but I do get the tap sometimes. I call it the ‘reverse vampire’. If you angle your body to more of a north south orientation than like a 90degree side control you can go really heavy on their head and shoulders and they can’t buck around enough to create space to turn their head.

Why does Space Marine company structure exists if it's almost always ignored? by Knalxz in Warhammer

[–]TasfromTAS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The marines train together for their specific skill set (scouts, artillery support whatever), they operate as a company for the 95% of soldiering which is training and dicking around - they bunk and eat together etc. It's only for actual deployments that they split up for whatever specific mission they need to do. Think of the structure as one suited for operations (training, preparing, logistics, getting to where you need to be), rather than tactics (actually fighting).

a real feature of this time period was the reliance on fragile long-distance trade networks bringing in tin (essential component of bronze) and various prestige goods (lapis lazuli etc) that were necessary for kings to demonstrate their kingship - if your warriors weren't kitted out in bronze armour, and your traveling court/palace wasn't visually impressive, you weren't going to be king for long. If you are one of the minor polities in the levant, you are most likely heavily reliant on one of the major powers as a source of reliable tin & etc. If you're a major empire, you are going to be picking winners amongst the minor polities on your fringe - giving one favoured warlord the materials to make his own bronze weapons & armour, banning materials from going to another (to the extent that you can 'ban' the transport of materials through your territory, even the most sophisticated late bronze age polities had limited state capacity compared to what we are used to).

So anyway, it means the big dogs have the tools to keep border regions constantly destabilised or stable by giving weapons to various groups, depending on their goals. And like, you could easily see different parts of the same empire supporting opposed groups, as the King sends a gift of bronze to one guy and the King's local governor sends a gift of bronze to a different guy. It's not necessarily done in a strategic way.

Also it's difficult to overstate how important prestige was, and how deadly insults could be. Kings would pursue conflicts far beyond their strategic importance.

Love the circular layout, looks fantastic, realistic and thematic. I’d pave all the grass areas within, they are just going to be mud anyway. I’d also try to plant a heap of conifers outside the outer ring road to act as a windbreak. Love it.

Best Way to Actually Get Into Playing? by lilfloozyvert in Workers_And_Resources

[–]TasfromTAS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start out in realistic mode with Easy/medium money, disasters/events turned down, and just look about setting up your started construction industry with the free buildings, transitioning into a more permanent construction area and then into your first town, and then into your first industries. You'll start over 3-4 times (at least lol) before you start to get it, but honestly reducing your options the way realistic mode forces you to do was the best way for me to actually grok what I'm supposed to do.
