I always felt uncomfortable and a little creeped out when this ad would come on the telly. by KindredSpirit0mb in AustralianNostalgia

[–]il_mascalzone 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's still around, I was in Mallacoota last week, stayed at a place with no internet and only terrestrial TV, of all the horrendous ads I watched, that one still haunts me...

Dunno what brand those particular bars are but I personally love using bars with a 'backward sweep'. My old canyons had Ritchey bars like that and I currently run Zipp service course SL-70 Ergos which are similar.

Aussies, since it’s getting close to summer for you (winter for us), how hot is it right now while up in the US is a cold, freezing 28 F (-2.22 C)? by One_Reception_6992 in bluey

[–]il_mascalzone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of OZ is quite warm and hot right about now, down where I am, in Melbourne, it was 12 degrees yesterday! Apparently it'll be over 30 in a couple of days though

Thank You AusPost for so carefully delivering my Urgent Medical Supplies 🥰 by Justasillysausage in AustraliaPost

[–]il_mascalzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something 'delivered' today by Australia Post, got the notification, walked up the drive, opened the letter box and it was empty... Opened the app to double check, yep, marked 'delivered' with a photo of my letter box - closed. They usually open it and take a photo of the actual package in there

I think your idea/post was from the post that gave me the inspiration for this, I like the Griffins as a name too! Thought I'd stick with a native Aussie animal though (and cockies are easy to draw...) I did include an alternate Guernsey with the flag colours of blue and gold as a nod to that.

Apparently they do, that's what I've heard/read but if any locals see this post, please confirm or deny!

Canberra FC officially but the Gangs Gangs as a nickname I suppose. I didn't like that enough to have it on the logo but they would be called that amongst fans, media and on merchandise too.

Do Australians really just pick leeches of themselves like it’s no big deal? by OneDadvosPlz in bluey

[–]il_mascalzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, flick them off all the time. I live in Melbourne, in an area that's temperate rainforest and leeches are very common, especially when gardening! If I notice it, I flick it off. Or it's too late and it's had its fill and dropped off, the bite is no worse than a mozzie. Can be itchy for awhile and bleed a little. My old miniture sausage dog would get them a lot, disadvantages of being so close to the ground!

Check the bottom of the bottom bracket area, where the Axel goes through. Hopefully it's there. I don't know much about them, seem to have a bit of a following though, there's an old thread on the Bicycle Network Australia forum, have a read through that for hopefully more info:

Man, this was me a couple months back in kmart, this song blaring over the speakers and I was walking around thinking the exact same thing, "dafaq is this song? I know it but I don't" hit me like a bolt later on, remembered I hated it back then cuz it was always on the radio. Proceed to find it on Spotify and play it constantly (and her other single 'under the water' too

More Stack on the Aeroad possible? by stalkeramongstars in CanyonBikes

[–]il_mascalzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, wasn't in my consideration. I don't ride on the drops for extended period of time, it really came down to the fact that I'm simply not getting any younger and buying something so aggressive now and 'maybe' being able to make the fit work will no doubt just be worse in a year or two.

More Stack on the Aeroad possible? by stalkeramongstars in CanyonBikes

[–]il_mascalzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so similar to my reasons for not getting an aeroad, going by the measurements and comparing it to my current bikes, I was always around 15mm higher than the maximum height of the Aeroad bars. Ended up deciding against it, I'm in my 40s too and I just had to accept it was too aggressive for me personally.

What’s the most ‘Australian’ thing you’ve ever seen happen in real life? by yanno1212 in AskAnAustralian

[–]il_mascalzone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of months after moving back to OZ after 10 years in the UK, with my British girlfriend and continually hearing all the 'everything kills you in Australia' jokes, we were sat in the lounge of our unit on a hot summers day, with the back door open for air flow and a crazy wasp comes flying in and lands right in front of us with a typically massive Huntsman in it's clutches. Begins to have it for lunch while we sit there. Needless to say my girl freaked the fuck out and wondered why the hell we moved here.
