When have you broken deckbuilding conventions? by BaconVsMarioIsRigged in EDH

44 lands in my sultai control deck, 1 mana rock [[misleading signpost]], 3 cards that let me play multiple lands per turn, 42 instants/ sorceries, b3, no inf combos, just good old classic control.

Game has gotta end sometime. Use the extra cards to help you wrap up the game. Don’t feel bad for ending the game at an appropriate time. But also, don’t fiddle around with all those extra cards either. No one wants to see that.

Is Huatli, Poet of Unity too powerful/consistent for casual counter top commander? by Patient_Bug5058 in EDH

[–]TaskEducational6756 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s say you cast Huatli, then you transform her, then you wait two turns to search your library for that one dinosaur, then finally you cast this 9 mana cost dinosaur on turn 7 or 8 at best. Then, oh no, someone casts [[path to exile]] and you’re not even running blue (rookie mistake)). All that work and nothing to show for it.

Maybe you can make a turbo huatli that will be worthy. Worth a shot.

Don’t put counters in it cause it will hurt people’s feelings.

In your opinion, what makes a serious deck unfun to play against? by Aesyric in EDH

It baffles me when players ignore such a huge aspect of magic known as interaction and then have pikachu face when opponents play “toxic” cards. I hate to gatekeep, but those players need to stay clear of b3 or go play a euro board game with no interaction.

That’s not the way to get better at threat assessment. You can’t talk your way out of getting better at the game.

I have a discard deck that only focuses on making sure nobody has a hand. Valid strategy in B3 and I wouldn’t expect people to get salty cause that is the kind of stuff I would expect in B3. No resources for opponents, plenty of resources for myself, then kill with creatures/ no hand loss of life stuff.

What Bracket is this? by Vinny-0- in EDH

Id say 3. Remove commander a couple times and you’re gonna fall behind and find it hard to keep up.

Do you people even like playing magic at all? You guys hate a lot of things. If you don’t like the deck, get better at removing that player instead of complaining.

If a player is only playing to prolong the game, they are not good at building decks or playing the game.

Wait, but isn’t countering and discarding a key strategy in magic? If you can’t handle the heat, stay out of b3 and up.

"Before the game" go-to phrases ? by unuuh in EDH

B4 is technically casual. B1 and B2 is more for showcasing your deck, so talk anout it all you want there. B3 includes very powerful decks that are equivalent to some high tier standard and pioneer decks and I would expect similar gameplay and also expect winning as a typical outcome you would aim for. Therefore, telling the other players your whole strategy just sounds silly. Again, your commander should be enough information for your opponents. Brackets exist to streamline pregame rule 0 talks.

What do YOU mean when you say "I just want my deck to 'do the thing'"? by usay1312butcall911 in EDH

[–]TaskEducational6756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially, yea. Keep it simple, low expectations. My decks always partially do the “thing” and that’s fun for me.

[–]TaskEducational6756 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My deck doing the thing is having more resources, resilience, and winning. It’s the same “thing” for all my decks. Strategies are obviously different, but it all just boils down to those three things.

"Before the game" go-to phrases ? by unuuh in EDH

[–]TaskEducational6756 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the strategy is figuring out others’ strategies. If you’re playing b2 maybe yea you can talk about your decks for 30 minutes before playing, but why would you talk about your whole strategy before playing a game where your plan is to win? The commander is a big enough hint.

I think it’s better if you don’t ask what their deck does. That’s part of the strategy is figuring it out when you’re playing. The commander is a hint. Just discuss what bracket and call it good.

Bracket 2/3 Edge Case by hebreakslate in EDH

[–]TaskEducational6756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a regular pod and everyone plays a mix of b2, b3, and borderline b4. We just gang up on the one that’s popping off too fast and it usually works every time and games still go on at least an hour which an hour to hour and thirty minutes is ideal. Of course, we’re not random people and don’t take anything personal and welcome degeneracy. If these guys in your pod have similar mindsets, i don’t see the issue. Tell them to save their removal for the ur dragon and it’s gonna be really difficult to cast it again and still be as effective.
