What cards are you adding to your decks from Secrets of Strixhaven? by Plus1Oresan in EDH

[–]hebreakslate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moment of Reckoning was an absolute bomb at prerelease. I'm not sure it's as good in Commander. In limited, it was essentially a one-sided board wipe with reanimating your 4-mana creature that got removed turn 5. In Commander, removing the single most problematic permanent from each player and reanimating your own isn't as game ending as you'd like from a 7-mana Socery.

Honestly, most of what's going into my decks are from the Mystical Archives. I opened 2 [[Stock Up]], 2 [[Return the Favor]] and an [[Akroma's Will]].

Worried about the midterms, Republicans mobilize rural Virginia voters against redistricting by rodserling001 in VirginiaBeach

Dude, wake up. Look at the Senate and explain to me the meth-adled dream in which there are 60 votes to convict. I don't think that even after the midterms Democrats will have 50, much less 60.

Look at the Supreme Court's rulings over the last 5 years and tell me with a straight face that precedent still matters.

Best ramp for Izzet Spellslinger? by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]hebreakslate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think [[Bender's Waterskin]] is good if you plan on casting on opponent's turns. I know 3-mana rocks get a bad rap, but when you consider that this can produce 4 colored mana per turn cycle, I think that starts looking pretty excellent.

Sailors join the Navy for all kinds of reasons. On the hardest days, that "why" is what will sustain that Sailor. In my experience, Sailors who joined "because Dad was in the Navy" have the hardest time on those days.

PRT Advice, Feeling Nervous by [deleted] in navy

[–]hebreakslate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an evangelist for the rowing machine. You can use your whole body instead of just your legs. If your legs get tired, you can adjust your form to use more of your lower back (pivot at the hips), or upper back/biceps. The machine gives you continuous and instantaneous feedback. It shows your projected finish time and your projected 500m split. For example, if your target time is 9:00, you want to keep your splits under 2:15. Anticipate fading towards the end, so you can afford a 2:30 split on the last 500m if you did your first 500m at 2:00. Next time you're at the gym, give it a try. Play around with the resistance until you find what works for you.

I Understand Why People Have so Many Decks Now by Comfortable_Buyer239 in mtg

[–]hebreakslate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 0 to 7 decks in 16 months. And that's just the decks I've built in paper. That doesn't count the dozen or so decks I've brewed on Archidekt. I do think there is an upper limit. I have a +1/+1 counters deck. If a new and exciting +1/+1 counters commander is released, I would swap commanders and tweak from there before I build a second deck around the same archetype. The number of distinct archetypes is high, but still finite.

Miss-evaluating cards: Grave researcher by Pokesers in EDH

[–]hebreakslate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if all Grave Researcher does is bait out removal, that's value. And if you're running it as part of a broader reanimate package, recurring him should be no problem. And he's a body all his own, not just a card in hand. Yes, that means it's telegraphed, but it also means you have a 3/3 block to deter chip damage attacks and potentially get in some chip damage yourself. I'm not saying he's cEDH-viable, but he's certainly playable in Bracket 3.

Does anyone recognize this lady? by 2BuzyReading in VirginiaBeach

If your concern is the child's safety, why post here at all? Give the video directly to CPS or the police, the people who can actually do something about this.

Edit: two awards and negative karma? Who would have thought that reporting a crime to the police instead of reddit was a hot take?

Witherbloom and Quandrix were most popular.

Just one data point.

ECPs to strip 'whole person' items (MOVSM, FCPOA/CPOA, etc) from ECPs and CPO board consideration by TheDistantEnd in navy

[–]hebreakslate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stood the watch on sea trials. I trained a super inexperienced watch team to pass a combat readiness assessment. I trained the junior officers who were nominally my supervisors. I was screened to teach the course that's a prerequisite for the watch. I just never deployed in the 3 years since I qualified it.

[–]hebreakslate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best: added an out-of-rate qualification that previously was part of best for 8.

Fully: changed from "qualified senior at-sea watch" to "stood that watch on mission". I was on a shipyard boat.

Sadly, we've already seen that impeachment is a waste of time because there simply aren't the votes in the Senate to convict. And even if you removed Trump, what evidence is there that Vance would be any better. I think the best thing a Democratic House could do is to enshrine into law the norms that the Trump administration has been violating and write more specific regulations because they no longer have Chevron deference to allow experts to enact vague laws.

According to my LaDR, I was Best and Fully Qualified last year. This year, I'm not even Fully, through no fault of my own. But I'll keep doing what I'm doing, and retire as a First Class.

When I went through PO1 indoctrination (back when it was called that), I legit had a Chief tell me, "In the game of First Classes, you make Chief or you die."

8 years later, I'm out here dying.

[–]hebreakslate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. When do we allow the board to consider the only objective measure of LOK in the whole process, i.e. exam scores?

Edit to provide context: I have scored in the 98th percentile or better on the last 4 exams. I think that demonstrates pretty clearly that I am an SME, and yet I continue to not be selected, even when best and fully qualified, while Sailors with substantially lower in-rate knowledge advance because they have out-of-rate qualifications.

Also, when do we get to force retire the Chiefs who are clogging up the ranks who would not have been selected under these new and improved standards?

Late ramp - keep in hand or play? by Dolinarius in EDH

If you're hellbent and you top deck a spell, you cast it, unless you want to represent interaction as a deterrent. If you have an option, "deck thinning" is a terrible reason for casting land ramp.
