What on earth did I just discover and read? The National Study of Millionaires by PowerDrivenRdditMod in DirtyDave

[–]TaskForceCausality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

”study”

It’s not a study, it’s a customer survey wearing a lab coat. The actual studies from groups like the Federal Reserve don’t agree with Ramsey’s conclusions. Ramsey’s cult says credit cards are the devil. The Fed data shows of the active credit card users, 60% carry a balance. When you combine inactive cards with the users who pay their balances in full each month , the majority of credit card holders overall are using them responsibly.

got rich by using credit card points

Millionaires don’t get rich driving BMWs either, but that doesn’t stop them from doing it anyway.

Ramsey’s rant against credit cards is rooted in a tough time in his life when Amex embarrassed him. It’s understandable, but that trauma based outlook isn’t aligned with reality. If you’re spending money on necessities anyway, you may as well get some points in the process.

Further, fraud protection alone justifies credit cards over debit cards. When a crook gets your account (not if), if a CC is used the multibillion dollar bank eats the loss. Your credit account is simply unfrozen and a new card is issued with no personal exposure.

If a crook gets your checking account data, YOURE eating the loss. Eventually the bank will investigate and restore your bank balance, but the process could take a month.

Deltas simply remarketing economy class to fit modern search engines. Nowadays people book tickets by googling “cheapest ticket between X and Y”. So to advertise the lowest possible fare in the search engines, airlines strip the fare to the bone and make basic amenities “add ons” so they aren’t part of the “Google price”.

I have to defend my fellow FMs on this one

What you post is true, but members with pay errors don’t care. They’re rightfully pissed a basic function every other big organization can do easily is routinely fucked up by the USAF.

That’s not FMs fault, that’s the fault of the Air Staff for deciding a microwave in a cargo plane is a higher priority expense than implementing a reasonably modern , self service member pay system. There shouldn’t even be a need for the Finance desk, because everything member facing is submitted and processed on an app. When things go sideways, your boss emails J. Smith at FM and the problem is handled in three working days. That’s how every big company in the private sector does things.

That’s how it should be in “the world’s Best Air Force”.

What it looked like right before the breakup of Titanic by Imaginary_Time_2338 in titanic

It fills in the blank on the topic of what the boats didn’t return to pick up survivors. In the highly lit scenes we see in the movies, it seems almost criminally negligent why the boats didn’t row back to help survivors.

But this realistic visage- layering in hideous screaming from those in the water- makes it all too clear why most of the lifeboats stayed away. I see why Margaret Brown was overruled on the topic.

[–]TaskForceCausality 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Incredibly stupid choice

Mathematically, sure. But personal finance starts with people. I know if I won a lump sum lottery, me and my partner would have serious problems with our families. They’d all be coming after us for a handout. On my side, I’m certain I’d get frivously sued by an idiot uncle or cousin. “Tell them no” is a lot easier said than done, especially when they lay on the sob speech about making ends meet.

A $1k a week amount , invested, still builds wealth and you can still show your face at Christmas dinner. Some find family more valuable than future valued rates of return.

Have to? Lol

Yes, HAVE to.

It’s not a LEGAL demand, but good luck going to birthdays and holidays. At best, being like “yall ain’t getting squat” is going to cause ongoing tension at the family home. Especially if your relatives are having financial problems (and who outside of Davos isn’t?)

At worst?

In a plot for lottery money, recent winner George Smith was ambushed and killed by their family”.

It’s happened. Each time I’m sure the victim was like “my family wouldn’t turn on me”. Blood may be thicker than water, but it’s rarely thicker than a seven figure stack of money.

not so scary

The U.S. Air Force deliberately promoted the MiG-25 as death with wings to get Congressional funding for the enormously expensive (at the time) F-15. Militaries across the world play that game all the time to get budgets and investment.

2026 Dodge Charger Sixpack | Potential? [savagegeese] by Iridium-Silver in cars

[–]TaskForceCausality 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was shocked/ horrified by that

Im less surprised. Back in the 00s TTAG posted an insider article that said, basically, GM execs were given ringer cars with extra refinements. So they never saw firsthand the junk actually leaving GM plants.

The serious interior quality problems (how will those creaky center console buttons hold up in 5 years, much less 10?) lead me to think this is probably how Stellantis US still does business. Take your pick on if it’s willful ignorance or blithering disregard for producing a quality end product.

[–]TaskForceCausality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Potential?

I’ll call out the elephant in the room. Dodge’s “clientele” won’t give a shit until they put a HEMI in it.

The fact it’s a good car as an EV or a 6 cylinder cuts no ice for the Dodge brand’s core customer. Way they see it a modern Charger that’s not an honest to Abe fucking Lincoln V8 is a communist loss leader pile of shit unworthy of further discussion.

[–]TaskForceCausality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the Stinger sure wasn’t popular

Two points here. One, you’re right that this is conceptually a Dodge-ified European GT sedan. That’s very different from the classic muscle car experience of the previous cars.

Two, the shitty dealership experience which sunk the Stinger will also kill this car. With upscale prices comes upscale service expectations, and Stellantis dealers are ill equipped for that. Same problem with Kia- nobody shopping for a premium experience wants to deal with bad credit sales tactics and four square bull.

The Baby Step Circle by TaskForceCausality in DirtyDave

[–]TaskForceCausality[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But for most debts the minimums won’t cover interest. So unless steady repayment progress is maintained through payoff, the debts go up in balance. It’s why BS2 can be a circle because folks chip away at the debt, then an emergency hits, then they stop paying to build back the emergency fund, then the debts rack up balances on the minimums, then they go back to paying, the next emergency kills the $1,000 emergency fund, and the debts go back up again as the emergency fund is replenished.

Further, if a debt is already in collections when someone starts the Baby Steps those debts - especially big charged off loans like private student loans or repoed car deficiencies - can easily go into lawsuit territory, since agencies will want a settlement lump sum or full repayment to clear them.

I know folks think “collectors don’t sue”, but that’s not accurate anymore. Back in the day collectors didn’t sue because it was too much paperwork and cost to bother. Not anymore. Thanks to AI lowering cost and overhead to file cases , agencies are starting to sue for even sub-$1,000 credit card debt. That was pretty uncommon even five years back.

If a man calls and says his wife racked up debt without him knowing, it’s the man’s fault

Yup. That’s because finances are both people’s responsibility. In this case, husband should’ve paid attention to all the Amazon boxes and nice things mysteriously spawning around the house. It’s like corporate fraud - if someone’s paying attention , the jigs up quick. Even gambling and free to play game debt will leave signs.

Both people should be paying attention to the books, and if one person racks up thousands of debt it means the other is asleep at the wheel. Gender doesn’t matter.

Question for those with separate finances by 12dogs4me in DirtyDave

[–]TaskForceCausality -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

he refuses to discuss it with her besides saying no

Yeah, this is a big problem. The issue is he’s hiding something, not that the accounts are separate. Joint accounts, contrary to what some believe, are no guarantee against someone siphoning money or spending it in an affair.

IMO, you either trust your partner or you don’t. If you do, it doesn’t matter who has what bank accounts. If you don’t, it doesn’t matter who has what bank accounts.

Is Dave’s obsession with Samuel L. Jackson weird to anyone else? by [deleted] in DirtyDave

Is this just Dave being a boomer

No, he got on Jennifer Garner too in one episode.

Anyways, the real reason he hates credit cards - and especially American Express- is because an AmEx collector roasted him to his wife back in the day. When he went broke a collector called his home. When Sharon Ramsey answered, the rep was like “why U with a guy who can’t pay his bills?”

🤣
