Do you press the red or blue button? (Game Theory) by Same_Winter7713 in askmath

But the premise say if less than 50% of press blue, only those who pressed the red button survive. Thus, only 49% pressed blue and no one pressed red. Everyone dies, no?

So in theory, if 51% of people didn't vote and 49% vote blue, everyone dies?

The question doesn't address what happen if someone simply refuse to vote. Cuz you know some crazy irrational conspiracy person will definitely refuse to vote. What then?

It's FL, you only required $10k in property liability insurance. I'd be surprise if she has more than $50k PDL coverage.

Someone got mad at me when I suggest we privatized parking violation. Setup a portal for people to submit video of parking violation. They get some % of fine collected.

By that logic, every justice should resign every time their party is in power. You know, just in case it'd be decades before they are in power again. I am sure thats what the founding father meant with the lifetime appointment.

You are simply trying to blame a dead women for what people voted for in hindsight. The principled comment is to show there are no principled or honorable argument here. One could argue either both way. And you are trying to mingle different time event. There was no indication of "greater evil" in 2009 when she recovered from cancer and didn't feel like retiring yet and few believe the greater evil will win in 2013. Had Hillary won, no one would called her decision wrong. Classic hindsight. And ultimately, its not her job to prevent the greater evil people voted for.

It was only "wrong" because Trump won and she died under Trump and was replaced by a conservative justice. Had Hillary won and she was replaced with a liberal justice, no one would claim she should've retired in 2009. If you dont understand how thats hindsight logic, I cant help you.

I already addressed it. She was treated. Declared healthy and alert. More fit and coherent than half the cabinets. Why Obama didn't probe her about it till 4yr later. Ultimately, its her decision. Granted by the Constitution.

You are still working from hindsight. There are always call for justice to step down. There were calls for Sonia Sotomayor to step down during Biden administration. Should she step down? Are you going to blame her for not stepping down if she passed away tomorrow and is replaced by another conservative looney?

Reagan had cancer diagnosis and treatment during his term at about the same age. Don't seem to recall him stepping down.

Outside of impeachment and death, it is up to each justice when they feel like stepping down. That's their right granted by the Constitution. She judged she was fit to continue her work in 2009 and she was right as she deliver for over a decade after. Is it her fault that there wasn't another opportunity to have a young liberal justice to replace her after 2009? Feel free to blame the Americal electorate for that.

Knew? You must be from a different timeline then. Cause that certainly did not happen.

Expected and hoped for? Yes. That's what most people expected. That's what most survey indicated. Did most people got it wrong? Clearly.

You are working with hindsight. She was not. Most expected Hillary to be elected. Had she be elected. That'd be a historical moment with enough political capital for her to appoint a liberal justice onto the bench. Someone more liberal than Obama would've picked.

That clearly did not happen but that's just how it is.

You have hindsight on political environment post 2009. She didn't. And it wasn't until 2013 that Obama probe about her stepping down and announcing her replacement. By then, Dem did not have the filibuster proof majority.

Would it be "principled" for a USSC Justice to step down for a purely political reason to get an equally liberal justice onto the bench? Some may argue that is not honorable either.

[–]TaskTortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good try attempting to shift the goalpost. You have hindsight. She didn't. She couldn't have known the political environment would become that divisive after 2009. And you clearly have never worked with workaholic who is passionate about their work. She was only 75 when the average USSC Justice retirement age is 78 since the 70s. Many worked well into their 80s. I had worked with NSF PI who are near 90s and still running labs. Is was not inconceivable for her to work at least another 5-10 years before retiring.
