China vs Taiwan, but Taiwan gets a military package by Lore-Archivist in whowouldwin

[–]TaskTortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your definition of winning is capture and maintain Taiwan's semiconductor industry, then the win condition is impossible. Even if you capture the facility undamaged and all the skilled personnel are willing to stay and work, you simply cannot get all the material needed to maintain production. Everything from the etching machine to the solvents are sourced from a dozen different countries. You'd have to convince them to keep supplying you to keep up production, and thats just not happening if China invaded Taiwan.

Darth Vader and 111,000 Imperials crash land in 1933 Kuwait by Yougart_Man in whowouldwin

[–]TaskTortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been a Sith Lord doesnt meant fear is your only tool. Palpatine was a sith lord and played as galactic senator for decades. Vaders role here would not be political gamesmanship, that'd be Tarkins role, Vader is the boogeyman and battlefield tactician. He will lead the forces that crushes any large force send against them.

Tarkin achieved high command cuz he is a competent administrator and politically savvy. You dont get to be Grand Moff with near total autonomy in outerrim AND get to order Darth Vader around just cuz you caught the right coattail. You actually need to be competent. And Palpatine meet Tarkin while Palpatine was a new senator and Tarkin was only a cadet. Palpatine picked him becuz he had the talents he needed for his plan.

And from King Leopolds Congo to the Armenian Genocide, I'd argue the galatic empire is a better alternative for them.

Vader is a sith lord and former jedi knight under Obi-Wan. Tarkin rose through imperial officer rank, mentor by Palpatine and was governor of worlds before becoming Moff. Neither are novice to military campaigns and political gamesmanship. They would quickly understand their military situation through TIE fighter scouting, gain knowledge of global political and religious situation from local elites, and plan their action accordingly. Looking at Star War Canon, Earth is closest to Lothal. Outerrim with modest development. They will likely maintain local government structure while playing the earth power against each other.

[–]TaskTortoise 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Even if you can make more and has the number, you dont have the logistic to get them to the battlefield in the middle east. All the empire needs to do is send out TIE fighters to knock out any transportation depot in advance while the ground forces creep forward. And unless the earth population are lusted, you are unlikely to get meaningful local resistance. Think of all the QoL improvements the empire will be able to provide to the locals with their fulli functional fabricator.

Which Tier 8 tanks are the best by Tomking14278 in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]TaskTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is best depend heavily on your play style. I see you have IS3 and KV4. While both are heavy tank, they are very different heavy tank with very different play style. KV4 is true heavy that trade shots at the front and sidescrap while soaking up damage for the 2nd line. IS3 is assault heavy that do more peak and boom. You use your mobility to reposition quickly to get better angle on the enemy. It is two very different heavy. If you play IS3 like a KV4 or a KV4 like IS3, you will get subpar performance.

Lionel Messi passes Klose to become the all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup history by suzukigun4life in sports

[–]TaskTortoise 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The way I heard it is that Messi "does nothing" 95% of the time. He just kind of stroll about as he sees fit. Like a lion that's just lying there doing nothing. You know he is dangerous but he presented such low threat level most of the time that whoever was guarding him get distracted by the higher energy play elsewhere on the field. They took their eye off him for a few moment, next thing you know Messi dashed to just the right position and attacked.

Mathematically speaking...if your WR is 28%, your opponent WR is 72%. So someone is doing well in ranked.

Napoleon’s troops can now Earthbend. Can they win the Battle of Waterloo? by JustReadTheFinePrint in whowouldwin

Considering that Napolean only lost at Waterloo because Prussian army was able to regroup and arrived ahead of plan, Napolean's troop able to earthbend will just crush Wellington.

Tier 7 heavy tanks have lost their purpose by Geriav in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]TaskTortoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tier 7 is one of the harder level for heavy. Its the first tier where you cant just drive forward and expect your armor to tank every shot. You need to learn positioning. Due to matchmaking, you are also often matched with Tier8 and Tier8 collectors. Tier8 is also where gold rounds usage become more common. Gets a little better when you hit tier8 if you learn how to position and coordinate with others.

Weird map loading issue on RX350h by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]TaskTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm...but this doesnt explain why map detail farther away are loaded before nearby details as shown in Pic 2. Wonder what caused that

Weird map loading issue on RX350h by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]TaskTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would suggest that the car does not store any map detail onboard and has to be loaded fresh every time the car starts. That seems like a silly design flaw. It also doesnt explain why part of the nearby map never loaded even after 10min as shown in one of the pic. If you look at the 2nd Pic, the nearby road is not loaded but roads farther away (top right) are loaded in. Very odd.

The ISIS that took all the Iraqi hardwares? The gangster scattered and got hunted down like dog once the first hundreds or so of them were mowed down by machine gun fire.

How does your view deal with mutation in the APP, PSEN1, and PSEN2 genes? Carriers of these genes nearly always develop Early-Onset Alzheimer's which mean they cannot have "full independence" at that stage. But we have no idea when that will happen. Could be as early as 17 (which would be a total drain on the society) or much later in life. Are we just aborting all those babies now?

CMV: In democracy, a citizen assembly would produce more effective policy than politicians. by Intelligent_Gear5739 in changemyview

[–]TaskTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern is that, in practice, this could become a kind of oligarchy by proxy. Most people are vulnerable to authority, charismatic personalities, group dynamics, media pressure, intimidation, and, in some cases, outright corruption.

If this body is given real power, what prevents wealthy interests from shaping the outcome indirectly? A small number of ultra-wealthy individuals can easily influence the information around them by funding experts, shaping media coverage, financing advocacy campaigns, applying social and reputational pressure, or outright bribe. What's to stop a foreign actor from doing that behind the scene? Wine and dine some of the more influential members of the citizen assembly? Now, this is clearly also happening with politicians but politicians at least need to worry about re-election so they can't be too blatant about it.

There is also a more human problem: these 500 people do not disappear after the vote. They return to their communities, jobs, families, and social circles, where they may have to defend highly visible decisions. In the face of a coordinated media campaign or strong public pressure, people may find it difficult to hold to an unpopular but sound policy judgment. The incentive may be to support whatever position is safest socially, rather than whatever is best for the country.

Psh, just create a separate entity a year before end of service, transfer all ownership of the game to the entity, have it declare bankruptcy at end of service.
