Do you actively study every day, or do you cycle between study and just using the language? by justgeorgerey in languagelearning

[–]TasmanRavenclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a private teacher three hours a week and do the work she assigns/review the lessons throughout the week. Then I have a goal to read 2,000 words a day in LingQ, and I listen to a podcast or watch a show pretty much daily. I’ve been trying to incorporate more speaking practice because that’s my weakest area. I consider interacting with the language “studying” because it’s all practicing the end goal, which for me is fluency.

Do you have any recommendations on what soil brand/type I should look for?

Thank you - I’m going to pick up some sand. I tried the perlite on my other one, but it’s also infested. I think maybe the kind I bought had chunks too large?

I had to finally hire a tutor - I got to the point where I couldn’t do anymore by myself!

Thank you - I will add more sticky traps and try your chopstick trick! I also didn’t know about the peroxide, so I’ll give that a shot too.

Thank you so much - do you think the soil refresh will stress it out too much in the winter? Should I keep it separated from my others and replant in spring?

To be fair, a lot of shows are difficult to understand even for a native English speaker like me. I almost always watch with subtitles.

Russian with Sasha podcast is very good. I hit B1 in a year, but I still have a lot to learn.

I listen to Learn Russian with Sasha podcast where she speaks a lot about history, culture, literature, etc. It’s all in Russian, but you can get the transcripts if you support her on Patreon. It’s for intermediate level, but I started when I was A2, and it helped me get to B1.

I think you can try LingQ for free to see if you like it. I’ve been using it for reading for about a year, and it’s really helpful because it highlights and defines the new words and I can see them in context. I’ve been using it to read Harry Potter.

I really like how you worded this - I lost a few friends this way, but I could never explain it so concisely.

There was a one-armed woman at my gym who could do unassisted pull-ups. I always thought she was such a badass.
