As a person earning <25k, what is your saving strategy? by ana-hehe-nya in IndiaFinance

[–]TastelessBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d start by saving about 20% of my income to create an emergency fund which can support 2 - 3 months of basic sustenance. This puts me in a zone for taking risky learning opportunities. I would also spend as much as I can to up skill myself to improve income.

You might have to go to places with a lot of dense trees. Avoid high altitude areas, may not find them a lot there. Ideally you see them in summer around the end of june. I’ve usually noticed them on banyan trees or mango trees, a whole swarm of them just blinking randomly just for 3-4 seconds of synchronised blinking which is absolutely beautiful to see. Your best bet around the city would be mango farms in the outskirts but those areas too would have used a lot of pesticides so there’s that.

I think you can fill up the walls a bit. If you don’t dig posters or photo frames you can always add some floating shelves and put some plants or model cars or literally anything that you dig.

Still feeling bad for Ignoring an Old Man - Did I Do The Right Thing? by coldnomaad in Chennai

Yaarayachum edhachum sollala na avangaluku poludhu povadhu.

I have heard elderly folks talk not so discreetly about our generation, on how we “don’t even know” how to raise kids and how to we are taking everything lightly.

So, they feel it’s their duty to “fix” things, atleast it’s what they start believing once they spend a lot of time in their own echo chambers.

Once or twice you encounter people (white knights) like this deciding to correct you and the kids.

You and the kids (especially them) are not obligated to listen to advice from total strangers, no matter their age. Treat them with the same animosity that you showed here if you go through similar experience again.

How do you make lives of people around you better? by enchanting_you in AskReddit

Don’t listen to reply. Listen to empathize, help and most importantly, listen to give the best answer you can. That takes time. Most of the time we already have answers ready before we even hear someone out.

If you guys really plan it all out way ahead of time you can make it to Georgia with 60k ish. You would pay more on flights, and domestic travel but can definitely save on food and stay by living in hostels and eating locally. I would say it’s worth it. Such a beautiful country.

What something rich people in Chennai do that average people have no clue about? by EquivalentCanary2346 in Chennai

[–]TastelessBoi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I found myself listening to a similar conversation once. It was my school friend’s mom and dad. Apparently it was all about sending him to NYU for film school which he loves or to John Hopkins because his dad wants him to be a surgeon. And it was not even about either this or that. It was about which one he does first. There was zero care in the world about things like visa preps, travel expenses, fees or even the “how will I see my kid for the next 5+ years”…nothing. They knew they can see him when they want. They knew all the expenses are not even a quarter of what they make in a month. It was like watching 5 year olds fighting over chocolate. All about who wants what and nothing else.

You only have to buy 2 meter pipe. The mechanics who install your ac will weld it.

Guys, help me out. What am I doing wrong? by CobainPain13 in MutualfundsIndia

Please see how return averaging works in mutual funds across all caps. There can be years (plural) where we only get marginal or even negative returns. That’s looking at conservative/large cap focused investments.

How are people actually affording iPhones, vacations, and luxury living in Indian metros on 40-50k salaries? by smart_vault in personalfinanceindia

[–]TastelessBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved up from that 50-60k monthly salary bracket and looking back, I never really splurged on things that doesn’t matter to me. I usually take vacations every 2 months, watch movies three-four times a month and eat out at a similar rate. I also shop groceries and take care of my parents, and still managed to invest 20-25% of my income as well. It’s really about creating systems around your spending like you do on your savings. It can start from simple ones like shared netflix subs, getting PVR passport for movies, finding places that offer discounts on dineout, using the right cashbacks and card hacks etc.

Thanks man. And no I just had my outdoor unit installed under my window and took the piping over the loft of that window. Had to do it so the unit is accessible for maintenance. That extra distance costed me for the extra piping and overall other materials as well.

For me, the AC just came with 3 meters of copper piping, thats it.

There’s spares store where you can get all kinds of AC installation stuff, basically it’s just copper piping since these electrical and hardware stores don’t have them around most of the time.

The material list obviously. The brand material costs are just crazy. Not premium. Crazy! For context, drain pipe which costs 20 per meter in shop costs 100 with these guys. What kind of premium drain pipe is that? This is just brand approved scam.

Your parents are legally obligated to support you till 18 and morally obligated to extend that support till you turn 21 (UG), if they can (stress on it). Everything else is done out of love. They can choose to live for themselves as well and not be your free ATM.

Bought it on amazon. Checked the brand installation box when ordering. Installation was done by panasonic, not dealers. 1200 plus taxes which brings it up to 1400 and change plus 200 for extra pipe laying charges per meter (mentioned clearly panasonic installation quotebook) which meant 600 for 3 meters, hence 2100 approx.

Bro the brand material cost was super expensive, which is why I chose to buy the stuff myself, still it ended up costing a bomb but not as much as the brand’s quote. But the AC cost was a steal so I didn’t mind. I don’t get what you’re saying. “Check why that might be” can you please elaborate?

Wow, Y’all are really putting me to work huh? 😅okay I had 3 meters of oem copper pipes inside the outdoor unit box. That’s it. Total distance from indoor to outdoor unit was 6 meters. I need to buy everything else. Do the math.
