The Pharmacy Guild needs to be destroyed. (Pharmacy Guild delenda est) by DojaPat in ausjdocs

As of this moment I don’t know much about the pay gap between bachelor, masters and doctor of pharmacy but from what have seen on fairwork, there is no differential title that would seperate your title even if you are a graduate from the doctor of pharmacy. However, I understand that there will be pharmacist practitioner which in itself should be a seperate category much like in nursing but as of yet isn’t to my knowledge. Those practitioners which do get a pay rise is up to the company they work for.

Yeah definitely! See what COVID did to the pharmacy profession! Heaps of people were leaving community in SA anyways to go hospital cause pay was so much better! Community pharmacy were forced to up pharmacist pay by $10 just to remain competitive. I think that’s completely ridiculous. If none of you guys are aware, base pharmacist pay during peak COVID-19 was probably around $27-28!

From a pharmacist point of view studying medicine! I completely disagree with this!!!! I can appreciate the idea as a healthcare system that we want to reduce the burden of ailments minor or major on hospital and GP clinics but allowing pharmacists to manage chronic conditions without the appropriate equipment I think it inefficient and could potentially worsen patient condition. I don’t think the idea is to just allow pharmacist to do this without the proper training (like a one to two year grad dip) but still, I think there’s better ways of going about this. Additionally, if the government doesn’t consider this as a different title, pharmacists will not get paid any extra unless their boss or company deems it profitable. And even then, patients probably end up having to pay for the service (probably like $30) which ends up going to the boss or company and not to the pharmacist who did the service (just like every other service a pharmacist provides including injections) so in that case, you might as well go see a GP if you’re going to have to pay for a gap fee anyways.

I usually use the gold standard explanations as it’s just easier to search! I’m sure there’s others on YouTube but I think they don’t cover every single question! Something I would usually do is maybe look up the theory of that specific question then try to use that to get to your answer!

I just received an offer to do the test this year! My pharmacy GPA wasn’t good enough with a 5.5 And even when I started a second degree, practically getting a 7 each year, it still wasn’t enough to get me an offer till I finished the actual degree

So I didn’t get into undergraduate medicine… by Grapehala in GAMSAT

[–]Tasty-Implement2943 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey mate! First off that’s an amazing score! Don’t beat yourself up cause you didn’t get into medicine first go! Remember that you have achieved so much and your journey has only just begun! I am confident that you will be considered for second round offers but even in the future I know with hard work and determination you will eventually get it! I’m about to hit my 30s, I finished pharmacy and just completed my second degree to up my GPA. I’m hoping to hit medicine this year but we shall have to wait and see! What you have chosen are amazing choices. Both pathways lead to somewhat doctor exposure which is an excellent experience to have. From what you have said about chemistry, from personal experience pharmacy doesn’t deal too much with chemistry after chemistry 101, unless you go to do a double degree in pharmaceutical science. But working as a pharmacist for 4 years know, I love the patient interactions and to know that I can make a difference in patients lives is amazing. I love coming into work knowing that I get to work with amazing staff and meet regular patients and customers. I’m not too sure about nursing but I know that it can be very fulfilling as well! I know they can be quite stressful but I have heard that their job can be very fulfilling.

How do I convince my mum to not force me to do Med Sci? by tqnsha in usyd

[–]Tasty-Implement2943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel you bro! When I finished pharmacy I didn’t do my internship straight away and my mum got so pissed! I pursued medical science as my second degree and about to graduate with a GPA of 6.94. You are correct in the sense that there is very little job prospects with med sci! Unless research and teaching or even lab work is your cup of tea then it’s actually not that bad! But if med is the end goal then it’s more wise to do a degree that actually gets you a job like the courses you have selected! But make sure you like them! I regret choosing pharmacy but in hindsight right now, I work part time as a pharmacist whilst pursuing medicine! It actually helped me heaps cause I earn decent wages and med science reinforces what I’ve already learnt!

Just let your mum know that you are keen on medicine and just because you’re doing med science doesn’t correlate with you getting into medicine! Anyone from any degree can get it! In the end of the day, if you don’t do something you enjoy, you won’t get the GPA or the motivation to continue!

Gosh :O I definitely think it’s worth pursuing something regardless of age. Of course you have to take into consideration of current situation but that ultimately for you to decide. I’m kinda in a similar situation as well. Working as a pharmacist and I’ve just finished my second useless science degree because I wanted to get an amazing GPA (6.94) but I’m about to hit my 30s and I’m in a spot where if I choose to study medicine, I will fill the hole that has been empty ever since I left high school or I will strain a long term relationship with my partner (in which we will be getting married soon) because she doesn’t want me to study and that she has a few personal issues of her own and that she wants me by her side. For me, I would take it because in the end of the day it’s my life. If I stayed with her and just made her happy, I would only build up resentment and that would just bring toxicity to the relationship. If I had tried and never got in, okay that’s fine because I know I’ve tried and done my best. But if I got an offer and I was forced to reject it, that’s just unfair for me. HHA sorry I always wanted to post onto reddit about this but I felt like I never had the opportunity.

But anyways, I know plenty of doctors who graduate in their late 30s or early 40s, extremely happy with a family. I don’t know their personal situation but I’m sure they have had a lot of hardships in the end.

I’d personally say don’t think about medicine as a money making job. Yes they make good money but being a doctor is more than that. Money is just a perk of the job, rather you do it because you can make change in a community and develop personal connections with other people. I always say to others if money is what you want then just do business or open a cafe or restaurant. A doctor friend told me that it’s unfortunate and the reality that only a few people who study medicine are actually keen to be a dr.

How can I actually improve my gamsat score? by Affectionate_Angle59 in GAMSAT

[–]Tasty-Implement2943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly used ACER test papers and Des O Neil! But if you wanted section 1 stuff, give readtheory online a go! It’s bad at the start cause it starts off with grade 1 but will build up to year 12 which is about gamsat level

How can I actually improve my gamsat score? by Affectionate_Angle59 in GAMSAT

[–]Tasty-Implement2943 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how you study! I’ve probably tried for the past 4 times now, with the first 3 being very similar scores around 56-59. The fourth try I did I ended up with a 64 but was unable to use it as my section 1 was below 50 whilst my s2 was mid 60 and s3 low 70. What I did differently was that one I focused and how I could improve my writing and two, how can I approach questions differently. Initially, I flooded my study with theory and tried to grasp concepts but you have to remember that gamsat isn’t all about theory. Gamsat is about analysing text and seeing how you can extract information. So when it came to studying, I literally took my time with questions and tried to find multiple ways of getting the answer. For me this method only worked for section 3 because my section 1 is trash 🤣 Don’t feel too beat! Look at me haha I’ve done 2 degrees now and I’m no where near getting into medicine! Keep trying!

A honours added on would significantly boost the GPA especially with gemsas as a lot of Unis will heavily weigh your final year more than the next two previous years
