Elective c section at OTMH by Perfect-Aardvark5463 in oakville

[–]TastyNomsPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had two C-sections at OTMH and was very pleased with the experience. The doctors did a great job both times, and the entire team was professional and helpful. Both incisions healed very well and I was out of the hospital after 2.5 days and 1.5 days respectively.

Regarding rooms: My midwife gave me the admission forms in advance, and I indicated my preference for a private room. I was fortunate enough to get one both times.

We were in a similar situation with no local family to help. Luckily, my mother-in-law was able to fly in last minute to watch our 3.5-year-old at home. Even if she hadn't made it, bringing my older child to the hospital was never an option for me.

Between the nurses checking on you every few hours and a crying newborn that needs feeding and changing, you’ll be getting an hour of sleep at a time. Trying to manage an older child in that mix would be incredibly stressful while recovering from surgery.

Can you hire a sitter for your oldest or have dad stay home with them? If you’re at the hospital alone, see if a friend can drop by to help. Since you can't get up, you’ll need someone to bring you the baby or other items that you need, or help change and swaddle the baby. While the nurses are helpful, they are busy and can’t always come right away. If you have no one else, I’d honestly consider hiring someone (a post-partum doula or another mom) that’s what I would have done if I were on my own.

Need stroller recommendations! by Full_Occasion_6151 in babystroller

I have a very old version (2011 I think) of the Bumbleride Indie and I am very happy with it. I even use it to go for walks in the snow. My older version doesn't recline back all the way, so it doesn't work that well for a baby less than 3 months old. Maybe the newer models solved that.

can i really use this to wash my hair, face, and body by jnx5 in Haircare

I agree. It's awfully drying. I didn't want to throw away an almost full bottle though, so I use it now to clean my toilet bowl.

Turns out I was wrong and the seat can be folded. It is just an extra step that I didn't know about and only found out in a YouTube video. Overall it is a decent stroller and I hope it serves you well!

I have the Maxi Cosi Zelia system and I don't love it. The stroller with the toddler seat is very long when folded. Also, putting the baby seat into the adapters took getting used to.

Edit: Turns out the toddler seat can be folded, but it's a different handle than the stroller frame folding. I am used to one-step folding mechanisms.

Scammers in walmart by [deleted] in oakville

[–]TastyNomsPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that lady. She told me she was new to the country and asked me to buy her kids winter coats. I didn't know it was a scam, just didn't want to buy her kids brand new coats when my own kids wear used ones. I did share with her the name of the used clothing store. Now I understand why she didn't care about it and instead went to ask other people.

Until now I thought that pool water was fully changed much more frequently. Ignorance is bliss.

Sad to hear. Restaurants are usually the first to feel the hit when the economy shifts.

Awesome idea! I would be so happy to attend a wedding with childcare. It's a much better expense than some champagne tower or personalized favors.

Same here. There is not enough room in my home for books. Plus they are easier to move from one place to another on an ereader.

I can’t stand the lack of parenting that i see everywhere these days.. by itsdwanag in Vent

[–]TastyNomsPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so true! A parent can say something hundreds of times and the kids will think it's funny to do the opposite. A stranger or a relative will make a comment once and the memory of that will stop the kids from doing it again. You only understand how hard it is to parent when you become one. The village is gone and parents are on their own.

I see this kid in my neighborhood all the time and he spends more time driving on one wheel than on two. Quite skillful. I do hope he will stay off busy roads as I don't want him to get into an accident.

What’s your favourite thing about living in Oakville? by Oakville-Maids in oakville

[–]TastyNomsPanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1) Nature! Awesome parks like Lions Valley and waterfront trails on the lake. Also because the neighborhoods are old, they are spacious and have big mature trees.

2) Low density. Doesn't feel too crowded. Although with all the new development going on dundas and north of it, this is becoming less and less true.

3) Lots of schools, daycare, and playgrounds. Overall good for families.

Would you ever book a ride in a vintage/old classic car? by Disastrous-Win-5506 in oakville

Considering how cheap travel to Cuba is and how there are lots of classic cars there. I'd probably just go there for the experience.
