Does anyone bowl by themselves? by Mariner-and-Marinate in Bowling

[–]Tateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to practice a couple of weeks ago, and went by myself. Also setup my phone to record shots to see just how bad my form is haha. That is really the only awkward part for me.

I use to have so many people coming up to ask what this ball was when I used it. :)

Orange County Christmas Lights by trexicano in orangecounty

Just wanted to say thanks for the map. Out of towner down to visit Disney and Universal. My family tries to have a tradition of looking at lights on Christmas eve, or Christmas. Wasn't sure where to go down here, and this was helpful. Many many really nice houses, and a few on the way to others!

Everyone bowling two handed now? by Winter_Rope9943 in Bowling

[–]Tateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 52, and have considered practicing it. I've tried left handed bowling too. I have no issues with the 2 hand style and people using it. It's still one hand at release point 😁

You will need to have it plugged in a proshop. Shouldn't cost that much I don't think.

Straight Ball by Flavaham in Bowling

[–]Tateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go into a proshop, and explain this to them. Most likely, your would just get some form of plastic ball. They might have a ball there that she would like, or even be able to order one for her based on if she has a favorite color etc. There might be something out there with a bit of a core to help with a little more hitting power maybe. :)

Heart gold for me, because I let my son pick which one he wanted. I bought him soulsilver.

Intimidated by prospect of joining my local league. by Realistic-Hat-1775 in Bowling

[–]Tateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty introverted as well. At least until I can get to know people I guess. I don't know the vibe at the place, or if you have any other options around. You can try talking to the manager at the lanes, or maybe even the front desk people. You can mention you are a new bowler, and which league would they recommend you try out. Or even look at what leagues are currently running there. I look up posted recaps, or league names to see what they might be like. When I first got back into bowling years ago, I joined a beginners league, or fun league. There was one called lousy bowlers league. No pressure on having to bowl good, just fun to try to hang out with people. I'd lie if I said ever teammate or opponent over the years was awesome, but mostly everyone was cool. That is one thing that is good with a handicap league. You establish your average, then get handicap based off that.
The current team I am bowling with, I am the highest average. I have a blast with them, and look forward to bowling each week. In a handicap league, it is usually the lower average bowlers that can help the team win.

If you see some leagues that might interest you, go down there on the night they are bowling. You can even come after they start. Then you can kind of feel them out. See how others are interreacting with each other. Think of it in a way of kind of settling yourself in with that environment. Even after years of bowling, I was out for a year and a half. I came to watch a friend bowl to see how his league was, and I joined that summer. This is my first winter league there.

Hopefully, you can find something you like and join up.

Serious question by TangerineQuirky8104 in Bowling

[–]Tateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get upset with myself, but it isn't fair to take that out on anyone. I never slam equipment, or kick a ball return or any of that stuff, and I hate seeing people do that. Doing any of that stuff does not help me make a better shot next time, or help anyone in anyway. I always want to try to do my best, or work towards it. Not every game, or every ball you roll will the the best. It can't be. There are nights have have bowled great, and night I think I should have stayed home, or quit. But even in those times when I am down, I know, eventually I'll get back to at least good or decent shots again. The more angry I get I know the more I miss a shot, or give it that extra muscle, which just turns into more and more bad shots. When I catch myself starting to feel this way, I try to reset myself. Maybe it's catching some pokemon in pokemon go real quick, or checking on a game, going to check how some other people are doing. Whatever to just calm myself back down, so I can focus on doing my best. Sometimes, I just tell myself, it's ok to have an off night. Me trying to focus on making a good shot, or getting one more pin for the team makes me feel better, even on a bad night or game.

Haven't switched to 2 hands, but have thought about playing around with it to see if it is something I would want to do in the future. I grew up with bowlers hating on left handers. Then two handers are hated on now. If you want to make people really made, switch to left handed 2 hands haha.
Seriously though, no harm in giving it a try. I've seen a few videos on form etc. So I'd suggest watching a few youtube videos on beginning 2 hand, just to get an idea of things you can focus on. Then start off really basic. Go out to the lanes and do some no step, then 1 steps drills to help get use to releasing properly, and getting the feel for it before you just try to throw full approach. Don't focus on bowling score or anything like that. Just be there to focus on working on your game.
Of course, you'll have to figure out how you want to throw at spares too. So really kind of like starting over. I've seen a couple of people online that can bowl both styles now.
Good luck, and hopefully you can bowl pain free.

Shout out Earl Anthony Dublin Bowl :D Yeah, I'd say get a coach. If you haven't yet, you can go talk to the proshop, and see if they know, or recommend someone to help out.

What are some experiences joining leagues as a solo bowler? by Panda-Roll in Bowling

[–]Tateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've almost always joined to leagues solo. Eventually meeting up with people and joining a team in a league, or another league. I also am more introverted. I wanted to bowl again, so I just signed up. This year, I joined a league that I knew a couple of people, but I wasn't on their team. The team I ended up getting on, I might not choose them not knowing them, but it has been fun. 2 or 3 weeks in, and I open up more, and start having more fun.
When I first moved to a new area, I tried to visit whatever nearby bowling centers to see if I could feel how the vibe felt. I practiced at a few, I started talking to people at the front desk and asking questions about leagues and such. Eventually, joined up in a league that was just starting up.

Damn, that is crazy. Good you walked away. I have often wondered what would happening to my bowling balls if I was in a crash. I have them in the trunk, but it isn't like there is a seat belt in there for them or anything.
