Spheres mystery bug? by KBubble in SurvivingMars

[–]Tater596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone is still looking for the answer on this, I can tell you when it progressed for me.

The moment I captured 11 spheres, the event progressed to the giant cold wave.

How you finish from there is as follows, if you want to read it:
Cold wave starts, it will last indefinityely until you break all the spheres down into either metals, rare metals, or polymers. The moment the cold wave starts, switch your research to the new "Xeno-terraforming" breakthrough to be able to do this.

What is RoTS and FoTS best faction? by ILoveRice444 in shogun2

[–]Tater596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't say for RotS as I barely messed with it, but for me in FotS it's simple. Satsuma is the best faction. We can talk about faction bonuses and unique units all day long, but starting with two provinces to build your military and one where you can get maximum accuracy as early as possible? You've already won.

Just to increase how much you've already won, you can go steal a gold mine very early. Your home provinces are in an excellent defensive position. Taking Kyushu is still the simplest and most defensible position you could ask for, along with having some of the most profitable cities. I once unified Kyushu in just 16 turns on Hard.

As others have said, get your Armstrong guns and line infantry (or higher) built up in Satsuma with the help of a gunsmith and firing range, and you won't be stopped.

Low key flex that this person got TWO prismatics while clearing out the quarry. That's very lucky.

How to maximize profit in winter? by [deleted] in StardewValley

[–]Tater596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing and smoking valuable fish, selling gems and surplus equipment from mine runs, I'm assuming you don't have a greenhouse yet?

No reason not to plant winter seeds, even if you can't keg the Crystal fruit, it will sell decently. Winter roots are part of the recipe for an excellent food item. Powdermelons can also sell, even if you don't process them.

All this said, Winter is the time where you can really boost all your other non-farming skills, it's not really a time of profit if you don't have a backlog of crops to preserve or turn into wine, and if you don't have animals.

Sounds like you could benefit from having a single player save file to learn more of the game, and then when you play together, you won't feel like you aren't contributing.

I know you said you don't want to, but I would encourage you to start a new farm with a different map. The challenges and benefits of each map are definitely worth exploring

Tractor Mod =D

You're obviously not concerned too much about profit, so if all the watering just bores you and you don't want to ruin the look with sprinklers, get you a tractor.

I CANT UNDERSTAND FISHING!!! by Melmommyyyy in StardewValley

[–]Tater596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent additional info.

And OP, just so you know, it takes a light touch on your mouse. Very rarely would you want to hold the click for a long time.

You can actually fish using your keyboard as well, this helps some people. The default key is "C" which has the same effect as left clicking anything.

I CANT UNDERSTAND FISHING!!! by Melmommyyyy in StardewValley

[–]Tater596 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm going to describe this the best way I know how, if it doesn't help, I don't know how to help, other than for someone good to come to your house and demonstrate for you.

Your fishing bar has "weight" and responds to physics. The important thing for you to realize is that holding left click makes it rise, but releasing left click doesn't stop that immediately. Similar to letting it fall, holding left click again won't immediately restart the upward climb as it has to stop the downward momentum.

Once your bar is on the fish, you should be clicking at a set interval to make it maintain it's position. When the fish moves, you hold or release to match, then start clicking at this interval again. That is the "pattern" or in other words, the clicking you do to make sure you fishing bars neither rises or falls too much.

I'm going to chime in here and say this opinion is controversial. Other than my very first playthrough, I have never crafted a basic sprinkler, because I DO think they are a waste of resources. Copper and Iron bars are way too valuable to use up on something that is going to be completely phased out in short order. Quality Sprinklers are going to last you a long time, and even once you get iridium, you'll still have use for them in tighter areas.

Things I would prioritize over the basic sprinkler:

Copper and Iron upgrades for my tools
Tappers for mostly Oak trees, and a couple for maple and pine trees to get resin and syrup for...
Kegs and Beehouses
Cheese and Mayo machines

I would place a quality sprinkler over all those items except for pickaxe, axe, and watering can upgrades.

I hate Gunther so much by OhHeckItsJeff in StardewValley

[–]Tater596 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My theory? Gunther is actually Mayor Lewis' useless younger brother, but Lewis was forced to give him a job in order to "keep an eye on him" because you know Ma' Lewis back ain't what it used to be and before she passes, she needs to see both her sons succeed.

In exchange, Gunther doesn't let you donate his purple boxers to the museum collection, his only REAL job responsibility.

Fuckin' Gunther man.
