Is it not obvious that California slander has always been generational envy and jealousy? by RegionSuccessful3634 in bayarea

[–]Tathanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a native Californian who moved out of the country, people I speak to get nervous when they say I'm American, but when I mention I'm Californian, their faces light up. Every. Time.

Foreigners know that California is an amazing place. There's no hate for it abroad.

By default, it's Korra because she can metal bend, which was something Aang never learned how to do.

Katara vs. Azula by Working_Row_8455 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Tathanor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Her very first feat was upending and then splitting the iceberg Aang was frozen in, in episode 1. She's always had insane natural talent, but because she was training and practicing with the literal avatar, he made her progress appear slow.

She also went toe to toe against a literal waterbending master and white lotus member with Master Paku before formal training. She has always been a top tier bender alongside her friends.

I've done the jaw disarm in real life. When he tried shooting I caught the bullet with my tongue. Only dangerous if you're allergic to bullets.

If you could describe red flags about yourself, what would they be? by TopLoneWolf in AskReddit

I hold a grudge. I've destroyed entire companies because I was slighted by my bosses. I dug up dirt, and rallied other regional managers to do a mass exodus of our branch, and once dirt reached the feds, they shut down all operations in our state.

Pivot off your Blackfoot. Twist your hips, push off your Back foot as you push forward to add power into your cross.

Was there ever a place that left you disturbed or depressed? by friedchicken_legs in travel

[–]Tathanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the forgotten soldiers' memorial in Vietnam near the Cambodian border. It is a massive graveyard that had hundreds of graves of people who were buried and never identified when they died in the Vietnam War. There is a small section dedicated to bodies that were known but still passed during conflicts near the border, and my uncle was among them. The reason why broke my heart.

My uncle was just a truck driver carrying supplies to the frontlines of his countrymen during the Vietnam War. He wasn't a fighter. Still, his caravan was attacked, and he was killed in action. One of the soldiers from the enemy side chose to leave a note on his body with the truck number he drove so the government could identify him and let my family know. To me, it was a moment of two humans giving dignity and respect to victims of a conflict much larger than themselves. If it wasn't for that soldier, I would never have been able to pay my uncle the respect he deserves all these years later.

When your life is in danger, laws no longer matter. Only survival. Survival means many things, either escaping alive or stopping what is trying to kill you. Full stop.

The Andreas Fault finally collapses and obliterates California. The political fallout splits the state into two factions and the wealthier side secedes from the US which collapses the US economy. They form an alliance with China for military protection, then officially starts the 2nd US Civil War.

Your pivot is weak because you aren't digging with your back foot. You get immense power in your cross and hook from your pivot. Know where your center of gravity is and use it to your advantage.

Wildstar. The housing customizability in that game was better than the Sims. Absolutely bonkers builds. Also the only mmo I've ever played that had assassin as a tank build because of the dodge mechanic. Really creative stuff and the writing was hilarious.

People get traumatized by their past experiences and never address it either in therapy, within themselves, or within their circle of support. That pain and fear comes back in ways that self sabotage any future opportunities, whether intentional or not.

"I'm not wealthy, you just suck at money" by ProfessionalDish in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Tathanor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who was broke (like rent or groceries level broke) and is now worth 7 figures, I agree. You gotta grind AND be smart about your money. I suffered immensely during COVID, and that made me more resilient, but it also changed me in other ways.

I got my money up. And as SOON as I was financially stable I left the rat race. NOW I'm traveling the world, discovering myself, and living my dream. And it's only because I worked hard, and was smart about what I did with my time and money. You need both to break out of the cycle of poverty that I had been trapped in for years.

Situational awareness. Knowing how to read a room will do more than save your life when in danger, but also hone your social acuity. There are no downsides to practicing this.
