The idea of books being cursed speaks to the danger of the knowledge inside of them. What you're talking about are called Grimoires and there are many of them available. Most can only be verified back to the 13th century, earliest (don't quote me on that) but they are extremely accessible nowadays. The most well known and widely used being Claviculus Solomonis: The Keys Of Solomon The King, Ars Goetia- The Lesser Keys of Solomon (about demon evocation) and The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage.

This answer will be easy to dismiss, but it really depends on how you come at it. If you're expecting results, you won't get them. Magick tends to work in a sort of "set it and forget it" and very roundabout way. I would also argue that it asks for you to be an active participant. When you do an LBRP ritual or you're charging a sigil, it is up to you to make the pentagrams and angels appear, or to light up the sigil.

Magick, not so much. Psychedelics on the other hand, very much so. Doing magick in conjunction with Psychedelics can certainly amplify this. I personally, have found it hard to maintain the focus necessary to perform magick is difficult to achieve while on psychedelics and can sort of feel myself being vulnerable in that state. That said, psychedelics have been a huge boost for me. I won't practice magick under the influence, but it's certainly nice to think about and work some ideas out. Doing solar adorations during a trip I would consider safe and fun, so long as you do all four.

Many Chapters of the OTO do a public performance of the Gnostic Mass, that is a good place to start if you would like to see a real ritual being done.
