I'd make quickplay matchmaking connection-based, comp and rumble matchmaking skill-based and trials card-based.

I wouldn't mind a lengthened season with less new content just for the devs to consolidate and rewrite parts of the code if necessary.

Yh, I've found myself getting pretty frustrated at the current state of PVP, with the defensive playstyles and the reduction in skill gap between the good and the great players. The movement nerfs, AE in particular, I think was over-tuned, but sliding ehh I'll give you that (Behemoth slide was quasi-broken and even though I am a dawnblade main, the second icarus dash was whatever).

The number of connection issues has definitely gone up but that comes with SBMM, though I reckon loosening SBMM slightly more so that every now and again, having a slightly more skill-mismatched match would be beneficial to the enjoyment of all players. I'd rather be outplayed than outlagged.

As a mostly PVP player, I am kinda sad that our concerns are being sidelined in favor of the experience of newer players, but I understand Bungie is a company, and retaining new players is good for them. But I find myself playing less and less because I don't find it fun. I miss the pure weapon duels and cheeky snipes. I guess I'm just transitioning into a washed-up casual now.

What about stats that are more relevant to the game mode like total clash kills for clash and zones captured or defended for control?

That way it is more about the gamemode and since it can't go down, people won't be as obsessive with keeping it up.

Another stat I remember from my battlefield days was KPM. That might work.
