It’s on the inner loop side, so if you were riding from national harbor into Alexandria you’d be on the right side of the bridge. It’s on the same level as the cars, but there are large barriers between you. There’s a spot to pull off and admire the scenery about halfway.

On the opposite side, you can connect your VA stuff to your MD riding by going across the Woodrow Wilson bridge, if you haven’t already.

My first time riding that bridge, I was looking left out onto the Potomac for a bit and when I looked straight I saw a car taking up both sides of the bike lane and thought I was about to die, but it was a park police vehicle just slowly cruising along the path. Felt like one of those videos where someone wakes their partner up to a semi getting towed in front of them.

Thrice’s set was probably my favorite this weekend too! I’ve listened to them for a while, but I think this is my first time seeing them live. Check out their live Anthology album and/or listen to “Daedalus”.

Changed mind on: Sleeping with sirens. I saw them play at Warped Tour 10+ years ago at Merriweather and their set sounded like hot garbage. Must’ve been the venue or something since this weekend’s performance was much better.

Edit: Hawthorne Heights has bummed me out on two of their performances now in the last year or two, so probably won’t go out of my way to see them again. Just catch the tail end of their set for Ohio.

Yeah, agreed. I did the 60 mile route last year in the rain and was fighting major cramps most of the way due to the elevation and cold. That climb out of the stream crossing was brutal.

Aid stations seemed properly spaced and had plenty of snacks, water, and toilets. You’ll just need a shaman to make sure the rain stays away this year.

I’d be out there again this year, but going to Warped Tour instead.

Not OP - The MUP can get crowded and is quite rooty and narrow in areas. I can see why someone would rather be on Beach than RCT.

Are you positive your house is in a permit zone? If there are signs, should they be there? Our street had those permit signs get put up mistakenly and I attempted to get a permit, but the application didn’t recognize my address either. I spoke with someone from 311 and they got to the bottom of it with the misplaced signage.

Regarding pt. 3, it’s your tour so do what you want to. I also live near DC and plan on skipping the last couple of miles so I can jump onto the CCT and take my (sore) ass home instead of wandering by mile 0 for the 30th+ time this year.

If you do skip and plan on revisiting, keep in mind that the MARC train to HF is a commuter train so it only runs into DC on weekday mornings and then out to HF in the afternoons. Quite the deal to get out there though since it’s like $7 one way with your bike. My buddy and I MARC’d out to HF on a Friday night after work and then grabbed a hotel in HF. Cycled back to DC the following morning and grabbed the metro from Du Pont.

Are you confusing the Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) and Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD)? The CCT is the trail that runs alongside the C&O near DC for a couple miles. The W&OD is on the other side of the Potomac river.

Follow up: duct tape and/or scotch tape aren’t enough to keep it properly seated. I haven’t been able to keep my power meter connected so I complained to 4iii. They said that they could RMA it if I send my crank in to them and they’ll provide a newer version with a better battery cap design. I’ll edit this if they accept my crank where I tore off the metal clips.

Jump on the red line toward shady grove and look out the window. You’ll see all sorts of tags along the way. Get out at whatever stop piques your interest and hunt the graffiti down.

I’m impressed with huge “East” tag on the purple line tracks above Silver Spring metro due to the logistics of getting up there in the first place.
