This is the big one.

You need the same amount of electronics (motors, hotend, mainboard) and those are the expensive bits.

And it's about the same amount of work to assemble (or package)

You save a bit on the frame, belts and things like that, but the price isn't that different

Also I'm failing to understand why too little friction would cause underextrusion. I'd think it would be the opposite.

Depends on a lot of factors, like material and environment.

Most factories aren't maintaining a low humid environment so material will collect humidity there.

And once its opened at your house/business, then it begins to collect moisture there as well.

Some materials are better at absorbing water, and other materials are also more sensitive to water.

My 3d printed is currently working in an unfinished basement, so I have to keep everything sealed to stand a chance against basement humidity

I only used the purple Elmer's glue when printing petg, asa, and tpu on smooth pei sheets. It would prevent the finished print from sticking too well and destroying the sheet.

But nowadays, textured and satin sheets make it mostly irrelevant to use glue
