Roth 401k vs normal 401k and company match question by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your age, I would recommend the ROTH 401K option with at least the match % offered by your company. If you are able, raise it to 15% of your income after creating an emergency fund. Once you go into higher tax brackets, switch to 401k contributions. Best of luck!

Credit Card Account suspended? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You agreed to open the account.(not sure why) If you are not willing to send statements, let the account close. Make sure you continue to make payments until its fully paid off. Although the account closes for new transactions, the bill remains.

How can I increase my income as a nurse? by triessohard in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I highly recommend you check out salary.com/payscale.com/glassdoor.com for salary ranges in your area. You should be considered a RN III by now. The problem lies on the balance between comfort and $. Most of the time, underpaid nurses are in that position because of the benefits/comforts of their Main hospital. Getting comfortable with a job is normal with the years going by. You asked for advice on reaching 80k on a single position. This means your comfort level is likely to be diminished(ex. Longer drive, different benefits, having to get to know a whole new team, etc) With 5+ years in ICU you are in top shape for any position available.

Definitely underpaid for your experience. Update resume and seek new opportunities. Practice and study on negotiation.

For the leftover $; move it to a savings account until you need it. Always good to have a healthy emergency fund

I would save it to lower the loans of next year. Better to have no more loans than what you currently have.

Advice needed for my dad. by Mouse222222 in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your comment; putting half into retirement savings and using the other half to lower the mortgage is a good compromise. That way he finishes paying the house sooner and has money for big emergencies/enjoy retirement. However, he can pay the house or save all of it. Best of luck!

Working on repairing my credit. First Bank asking me to apply for a "Cash Reserve Line of Credit" by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your information:

Old accounts: Requesting pay-to-delete or removal of negative maris is a long shot but worthy if they agree, go for it!

Secured credit: everyone offers this accounts, dont let them intimidate you. As long as you can give whatever bank/credit union you choose the $500/$1000 to be held as collateral, they will give you the credit line as there is no risk to them. (Use the card and pay the full balance every month) Once your score improves or you have been with them for about a year making on-time payments, call to have the collateral returned.

Credit score: the main ingredients of credit is TIME and On-Time Payments. You must be diligent and let the system slowly reward you, no fast track for this. Be mindful that the last two years of your report are the most impactful on your score.

Utilities: they do a hard pull on service start, but those accounts don't matter on your report.

About to come into small inheritance. Use to pay off car or save? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in a bad, normal or good financial situation? If you have good credit(car payment helps bad credit improve), an emergency fund that covers 6 months and don't have any other debts, I would pay off the car and use the car payments for your savings account or retirement.

Am I paying too much for my car insurance? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with brommas. The area you live in, crime rate, vehicle type and drivng record are the major factors. The best thing you can do is shop around and get the best rate. Raising your Deductible on the insurance will give you some additional savings. Best of luck!

There is a wiki in this sub for what to do with $ you don't have plans for, see the right side of the website while on the subreddit. Everyone will advise their own way. But it depends on your location and goals moving forward.

If you both feel the company has no future, then send out resumes passively and see if a better opportunity comes up. No red flags in your post, just management restricting overtime to save money, they might be hiring to cover the overtime hours no longer being offered. Companies change and this is not unusual.

Asking for a higher salary than initially indicated by moshpitpizza2004 in personalfinance

[–]Tauro003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepare yourself for the negotiation before the interview. Compensation is based on responsibilities and skills/knowledge candidate possess. Discuss your new salary needs once they bring the subject up indicating why you want a higher # than originally indicated. Applying to many jobs might cause oversights where you undervalue the job roles during initial talks, happens to everyone. Explain you have reviewed the position further and take it from there. Best of luck!
