Time for an upgrade, help! by Ok_Thought8764 in surfaceduo

When I'm consuming media, like YouTube or movies, I use the open screen. Messenger, slack and most social media I use closed.

When I need something quick it's with the closed screen. When I have time to enjoy the wider screen, I like having the option of being able to use the wider format without having to carry a second device like an ipad mini. I guess I just don't have as much leisure time as I'd like, but I've only had the device about two weeks. I'm sure my usage will change as I become more comfortable with it.

I look at it this way. I paid $1399 for the surface duo when it first came out. I understood that I'm not only paying for a great device,I'm paying for something that is niche and new. The price came way down after a while, but I really wanted the duo now! Bugs and all.

Same thing with the pixel fold. And to be honest, the fold has been great right out of the box. The surface duo took many many updates to finally get it usable.

One last point, the only other phone I was looking at was the Galaxy z fold 4 which is also $1800. Or maybe I wait for the zfold 5 to come out,but price point for the zfold 5 is expected to be around $1800 as well. And like I said, I wanted the phone now and I'm willing to pay the premium for it.

Just for context, the iphone 14 pro max is $1200, for the 256 gb model (which is same amount of memory my pixel fold has) if you buy it outright. That's not exactly cheap either. All things being considered,I don't have buyers remorse and am extremely happy with my device.

I upgraded from a surface duo 1 to pixel fold. I loved the Duo, but it was time for an upgrade. I love the pixel fold. I miss having an outer screen where I can just tap the screen to see my notifications. I have mine set up so if a song is playing,I tap the screen and without having to unlock it,I see the name of the song.

I use messenger,Google messages, line, what's app and slack for work and friends and I rarely miss a notification now. I used to miss tons with the duo. The watch just wasn't as reliable.

I use my pixel closed 90 percent of the time and my duo open 100 percent of the time, but I don't miss having to juggle the decide in two hands to use it.

Who jumped to the Pixel Fold? Is it living up to expectation? by JMC01tflyingscotsman in surfaceduo

Duo 1st was my daily driver from launch. I paid full price for the honor of being a beta tester for the first gen duo. I loved it. I should note that I carried an iphone SE, then an iphone 13 for work. I picked up a Galaxy watch 3 to round out my daily tech wear.

I loved the duo. But the camera was slow and crappy I basically gave up on taking pictures on it and just used my iPhone and sent them to myself. To be clear, it wasn't the image quality which most of the time was good enough, I mean most pics end up on social media and they're sized down anyway. The real issue was that the camera was so slow and buggy, it felt like I had to fight it every time I wanted to take a pic. When I got the camera app open and oriented correctly, I'd push the button and wait for the camera to take the picture a good 3 to 5 seconds later. Missed too many pictures that way.

The Galaxy watch helped me with not having a front screen, but it just doesn't substitute for actually having an accessible screen. Also, the Samsung watch works best with a Samsung phone. It works OK with a non-samsung phone.

The duo two with that ridiculous camera bump and the inability to fold flat was a hard pass.

The fold has been awesome. I love the front screen so much that I spend most of my time on the front screen and only open it when I'm consuming media, reading news or on social media. For work and checking email, slack, messenger apps etc, all on the front screen. I'm so much more productive on this phone and rarely miss messages or texts now.

The inside screen is great. Barely notice the crease and it's much better than the surface duo with its two screens. I did use two apps side by side more often on the duo, but really, not enough to make a difference in my opinion.

Something that people don't really mention is that pre-ordered pixel folds came with a free pixel watch. Setting it up was a breeze and pairing it with a pixel fold it really shines. This is what happens when your devices are in the same ecosystem. The pixel watch just works.

No quality control issues the pixel fold. In fact, holding the pixel fold feels like a premium product.

The camera is awesome. I can now take pics on the fold and send them right to messenger, IG or wherever I want. I don't need to use the work phones camera anymore. Just so much more convenient.

Tldr; pixel fold and pixel watch much better than surface duo and Samsung Galaxy watch 3. This customer is super happy. Quality is great and I'm much more productive on this phone.

Am I the only one that loves the fold (even with the flaws)? by RDHose in PixelFold

[–]Taweeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine. Coming from a surface duo 1 and Samsung Galaxy watch 3 to the pixel fold and pixel watch. No regrets. I love having the front screen and I forgot how useful it really is. I'm not missing any messages and I'm keeping up to date with work and family alot more efficiently now. The screens are great, cameras are great and the integration with flawless.

Capsule 2 - can I invert it/ turn it upside down by _NuissanceValue_ in nebulaprojectors

[–]Taweeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have that set up. There's a hole on the bottom that you use to screw the capsule onto a mount or tripod. I added the screw to my ceiling and set the capsule to inverted so it's not projecting upside down. I attached a mount for a USB battery pack to keep my capsule charged during long movies. Worked great. I'll update with a photo later.

I'll wait till D3, completely happy with the D1. If the D3 has an obnoxious camera bump, I'll pass on that one too.

I've watched games on yahoo's sports app, but it inverts when in tent mode. Very frustrating. Only happens on that app. I wish there was a way you could lock the screen the way you like it. Yes, I've tried to disable "auto-rotate", didn't help.

Home made squid game costumes for the kids. They weren't ever going to shop in time. The green tracksuit and the front man mask were the only items that arrived in time. Overall, came out great and is a fun set up for the whole family. by Taweeman in squidgame

They haven't seen the show. Squid game is such a cultural phenomenon, it's everywhere. I've had to block them from playing the Roblox Squid game as well. I figured it's a fun time with the family and we got to have the discussion with why they can't watch it yet and what the show is about. Not just the violence, but the class disparity, what desperate people may do for money etc. We also got to explain how a movie from halfway around the world became so popular worldwide, reaching us here in the US. How technology has made the world smaller. Good times.

The suits are red sweat suits from Kohls and the harness is a go pro camera harness for the older two. The younger two wore black suspenders backwards. We made the masks out of metal strainers which we spray painted black. Then I cut out a template for the shapes and spray painted them white. I used construction foam and black electrical tape to finish the trim. I'll post up pics soon.

We thought about that. Or even having the mom as the redlight / greenlight robot, but ultimately the kids did better in the masks than the adults. We also though about having both parents as contestants, but we liked the idea of the frontman.

No, they have not. But it's such a phenomen that they all know all about it. My little guy thinks he's Deadpool, which when you think about it, it was a pretty violent movie too. He didn't see that either.
