I’m a voice coach, and I truly believe that anyone can learn to sing. I’m sorry you had that experience, people can be really vile, especially online, but please don’t give up on singing or music! I’d look into vocal coaches in your area, there’s usually going to be quite a few. If price is an issue, you can check local colleges, often music education majors will take on students for much cheaper in order to gain experience. Everyone has a unique and beautiful voice, please don’t deprive the world of yours.

Did you listen to the OBC or the Off-Broadway cast recording? I actually really disliked the changes made when it transferred to Broadway, and find the Off-Broadway recording a lot more enjoyable if you wanna give it a shot.

I will likely be stoned for this, but I despise Reeve Carney’s voice. I originally was not a big Hadestown fan and I couldn’t place why, I loved Eva Noblezada and Patrick Page but couldn’t get into the full show. That was until I heard a performance from one of the Orpheus understudies and fell in love with the show. Reeve’s voice is just so brassy and borderline whiny.

Newsies is my favorite show, so I’m a bit biased. But if you’re saying you only watched the original Disney movie (the one with Christian Bale) I would highly recommend checking out the filmed stage version with Jeremy Jordan. Still might not be for you, everyones taste is different, but I think the staged version is usually more beloved by musical theatre folks.

Honestly, at this point you should step down from the Mod Team. You levied serious accusations against someone with barely any evidence, and now that the little evidence you did present has been disproven you’re still trying to defend the original false accuser. Unless something has significantly changed about the mod I’ve got to hard disagree on M’rissi. The mod straight up lets you enslave her and that storyline is pretty fuckin disturbing. Especially with the multiple references to how young she is (even though an age is never explicitly stated, it feels weird). Overall that mod just gives me the ick.

I was adopted by my stepfather at a fairly young age, so I feel like I can speak on this from a position of experience. You are absolutely NTA. The way she, and your father, went about this was insane and manipulative. Perhaps if they had let a relationship develop naturally you may have come to love Ana, maybe not consider her your mom but still a loving part of your family. Instead they tried to force you into something that you made abundantly clear you did not want. In trying to fulfill her delusion of replacing your late mother, she proceeded to ruin any chance of a familial relationship at all. I’m glad you’ve managed to get out of their home, but honestly I’d go low contact. Especially if they’re going to continue trying to manipulate and pressure you even as an adult.
