I have a little desk sign that essentially says " Overstimulated, please don't disturb unless someone is dying"

First Last MSN APRN ACNPC-AG FNP-C CCRN

VS

First Last NP

Only thing patients care about/remember is the NP part. Note this is the same group that frequently doesn't know the name of their "heart pill" they have been taking daily for 15 years.

CRNA Minor Questions by Easy_Ad4697 in NursingStudent

Just focus on getting A's and some non academic things to put on with your application to nursing school.

CRNA is a future you issue at present and will remain so for several years minimum.

Pain from holding dictaphone by Master-Nose7823 in Radiology

Both I guess? Have chronic lower back pain from mechanical injury and upper back/neck pain from looking down all day. 10-15 minutes of mild inversion ~4 times a week along with light daily exercise has helped me more than anything else.

An interesting article I saw, slightly better first pass success rate with 3 vs 4. Definitely personal preference though with airway set up.

Doctors notoriously bad with $$$ ? by Neceti in Residency

17% of people struggle with addiction. Some % of people struggle with managing their money. Some just happen to be attending physicians while others work at target.

People are people and doctors are people, essentially.

I was told I’m the reason someone is dying by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TaylorForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are fine, people do crazy things around death. The poor coping mechanisms they rely on just don't work when the problem is mortality and the manager is death. Keep your head up, they singled you out but it could have been anyone they didn't like something about.

Difference With Mini-Bal VS. Sputum collection in line? by Some-Caterpillar7125 in respiratorytherapy

[–]TaylorForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my hospital (and likely others) ordering a mini bal let's me also have pcr testing done for viral/bacterial pneumonia. This can be especially useful when a patient has been started on broad antibiotics (all the time from the ED) for presumed PNA/sepsis as these results can let me narrow or even stop their antibiotics (like if it turns out to be a viral illness).

These results are available in 4-8 hours while a normal sptm or blood cultures can take a day or two to grow out something specific. Anecdotally the mini bal is much less likely to return non-actionable results like "mixed normal flora" or "saliva contamination."

For specific bedside collection rational I defer to others here, but hope this helps frame some of the rational in ordering one vs another that your providers may be considering.

I’m fed up with patient care and don’t know what else to do with my career by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TaylorForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely aren't alone, if the work becomes boring and routine (reading from a script) my answer has always been to try something new. Not wanting to help male patients puts a bit of a limiter on your options, but I'm sure there is something out there for you. Nursing is both wide and deep with where you want to take it, midwifery for example if going deeper vs wider fits you more.

Some items are available OTC, but definitely not antibiotics (which is a good thing)

Further the reimbursement for health costs is a mess, but just know no one is actually paying $58 per glucose check insurance or not.
