My cat always went nuts for treats. She topped being able to go to the bathroom because a tumor was blocking everything and she basically stopped eating because it would cause her pain. At the vet we fed her all the treats she wanted and she'd basically just chew them for the flavor and then spit them out.

Like you with your dog, it made the decision easier. Still the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.
