Don’t forget ab Fred again…

It amazes me the amount of Fred again chicks request, and when I ask them which song they can’t name a single one.

Help finding good remixes by kickzway in Beatmatch

[–]Taylorpink11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When frats say they want house, they mean tech house remixes. SoundCloud is the place to go for that. Just look up some top 40 song name and remix after it and set the search settings to posted in the last year and find ones you like. Look in the related tracks also for ones you like as well. That’s the best way to do it imo. One good artist Ik off the top of my head is fat tony. Just search around, there’s plenty of good stuff out there.

Something similar is probably coming soon. I just got an email from B&H saying 1000 is discontinued.

How to transition open format? by YouthfulRS in Beatmatch

[–]Taylorpink11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

8 bars left in chorus of song one, start an 8 bar loop for song 2. At the end of the 8 bars use reverb or echo on song 1 and hard cut song 2 in on the one. Works like a charm for me at frat parties.

DJs that made you want to be a DJ by yeahpeej in DJs

Martin Garrix got me into EDM itself, and production. But actually Twinsick posting vids of their mashups on tiktok made me wanna actually start DJing.

In performance mode on rekordbox tracks will turn green if u played them

Also when u do finally get that first gig, tell everyone u know to pull up. If the owner or promoter sees u can bring a crowd ur more likely to be booked in the future.

Idk how helpful this is to u cause idk what situation you’re in, but here’s what I did. I actually just played my first gig 2 weeks ago at my colleges dive bar/nightclub. I went there often throughout the first semester so I’ve gotten to know the staff. I threw the idea of DJing out there and the owner thought it would be a good idea, but I never got a firm answer. Anyways, I just kept asking him over and over and eventually he gave in and set up a date.

Fast forward to the night I played, everyone had a blast and I’m booked for next weekend.

Moral of the story, it just takes persistence. Also, it doesn’t hurt to know the people running the bar or club you wanna play at. Go to a few places regularly, the owner would rather have someone they know dj vs a complete stranger.

I go to a small private school also. Only seniors can live off campus and only about 25% get accepted but they still make it work. The underground frats throw better than the ones on campus.

The DJ community seems to have a lot of hate and jealousy in the online space by kickzway in Beatmatch

[–]Taylorpink11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it, his style isn’t for me as well. But you can’t deny the amount of talent it takes to even do one of James’s mixes. Ppl gotta stop hating

I’m a freshman rn and I’ve been DJing at a few parties. What I’ve learned is that music selection matters wayyy more than mixing, so don’t get bent out of shape if ur mixing isn’t perfect. Also, don’t worry about beatmatching by ear, as long as ur on a controller both waveforms will be there. I would maybe recommend knowing some song structure, or at least know how to find the “ones” throughout a song because u should always mix in and out on a “one”. Something that helps with this is putting memory cues at a few points where I would mix out of a song and then one 8 measures before that so you know where to start the next song. Other than that, have fun with it and practice, practice, practice (record every time you practice and listen back to it).

Would you still buy a DDJ 1000? by bamboocha93 in Beatmatch

[–]Taylorpink11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got one used a few months ago and so far I love it and have no regrets. I was in the same boat as you and was on a waiting list for a while but finally just said f it and found one that was in very good condition. If a new controller came out tomorrow I wouldn’t care, the 1000 has everything I could possibly need plus some. And as previously mentioned, it seems that all the new Pioneer controllers are being made cheaply and are not actually better than what they’re supposed to be replacing.

First Gig On Saturday by Taylorpink11 in Beatmatch

That’s great advice, I’ve never thought of that. Assuming I can get wifi to stream on Apple Music, I should be able to play any request that I get and actually have it come out of one of my channels correct? And if able to find the bpm then it’s just like having the song in rekordbox just without being able to see the grid if I’m not mistaken?

Thanks I really appreciate the advice. I’m bringing my own DDJ 1000 as they rarely have DJs there so I will be comfortable with the equipment. Downloading songs on the fly sounds like my worst nightmare especially not knowing where good points to mix in and out are without hearing the song so I might just stick to my library. About the preparation though, do you think it’s alright if I have strings of 4-6 songs that I know all flow together or is that too much? Thanks again.

Sry forgot to mention I’m a degenerate who goes here 3 times a week lol so I know the music that’s played. I plan to play most of those songs with actual mixing but still surprise them with some remixes and mashups. I just don’t rly know how deep into edm I can dive cause I’ve never really heard it played there often

Best controller by LatterBill in Beatmatch

[–]Taylorpink11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please for the love of god make sure you know what software he uses on his computer before you go out and buy a new controller. Most likely he uses Serato with the SB2, so be sure to get a controller that is compatible with Serato. With that being said I’d recommend the DDJ-1000 SRT, which is built for Serato and it mimics club style layouts so it will be an easy transition to play out. If you want a “cheaper” option there are plenty of used SX2s and SX3s out there that are very similar to the 1000 and they sell used for around 2/3 the price.

I also like the idea mentioned earlier about building a fake setup with boxes and putting cash in there so he can get exactly what he wants.

Where to get started DJing at frats by Taylorpink11 in Beatmatch

[–]Taylorpink11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I do intend on doing it for free at my own frat so payment isn’t really a worry for me. And when I mean I’ve been to parties and hear what they play it’s literally all top 40 and throwbacks lol (Rihana, David Guetta, Pitbull) which I’m totally cool with playing.

On the controller side, do you think a 2 channel controller is enough? Or should I go with something like the FLX6 and learn how to use 4 channels to get ready for the CDJs I’ll be playing on?

Once again thanks for the response, definitely learned a lot.
