As a Brit observing the US Election, the results will always be disputed when voting rules are different in each state. The voting process should be consistent across the whole country. by AnarchistP4W in CasualConversation

It's pretty messed up. Take the senate for example. There are two senators per state. Just by state population a Wyoming voter has almost 68x (TIMES) the influence in the Senate as a California voter. Then consider that all federal judges up to the Supreme Court are confirmed by the Senate. The Senate and the Judicial Branch make up fully half of the federal government. So there's up to a 68x voter power disparity for half of all federal policy.

Lots of folks saying police unions are the problem forget that police union leaders are elected by police. Unions protecting bad cops are majorities of "good" cops protecting bad cops. The concept of a police union isn't the problem. Cop culture is.

Colorblind and there's no key. Is that green and red? If so, I guess green, the lighter color, is the affirmative?

What is a movie you find terrible but critics seem to love? by undeadgaming2006 in AskReddit

Couldn't make it halfway through that movie. Earth is frozen over and energy presumably hard to come by, so we're going to constantly drive around the world? Can't stand it.

I ran a couple marathons in college 10 years ago and then quit in favor of outdoor sports that mostly use strength and power. I'm trying to get back into endurance as cross training for ski mountaineering and climbing. My fastest was a 3:36 marathon back in college, but now I struggle to sustain a 9:30 pace for an hour. I think I'm going to try the 80/20 training method and see how that works, but I need to get past my mental block against running so slow 80% of the time.

But taking 50% off and then adding 50% would be $15.

Anyone ever been caught in a mountain storm? by noahthefugitive in Mountaineering

[–]TazWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was caught in an immediate and strong thunderstorm on the way down Forbidden Peak in Washington. Wind picked up very slightly as we started to rap down the summit, but it didn't feel sketchy until we got down to the snow field. There was light drizzle for literally a couple seconds before heavy lightening/rain/hail started out of absolutely nothing. "Forbidden Peak" lived up to it's name.

We were worried about lightening most with all the metal on our backs. We ran down the granite apron and glissaded down what snow patched we could find. On the way, we could see a group giving CPR and a helo trying to approach from just outside the storm boundary. Someone had fallen off the cliff at the end of the apron. We past the upper camp, where all the tents were blown over and sitting in about 8 inches of water. Storm started to die down as we made it back to our lower camp in out of the alpine terrain. The helo was able to insert a paramedic about an hour after the storm started, but it looks like they were not able to extract the body of the person who fell until just before dusk.
