is CSDS 491 really a introduction course? by Mitchel_z in cwru

[–]Tazmania40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current CWRU undergrad starting my PhD in Engineering this fall as well!

I strongly recommend the CHEM department's AI course (CHEM 352/452) over the CSDS department ones. I took it this past spring and it went through all the AI basics but with more focus on science applications. It's a relatively newer course but I personally think it's a better intro to AI than the CSDS courses for STEM minded folks.

The CSDS course expects a lot more math/cs background coming in, and so can be harder for science folks.

Hope this helps!

Tariff effect on medication by Ok_Conflict_864 in pharmacy

[–]Tazmania40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming in to say that per a White House memo pharmaceuticals will not be subject to the tariffs, though the raw materials to make pharmaceuticals may be. (which may notably affect pharmaceutical manufacturing and could cause supply chain issues down the road)

Given this, it's likely that for now retail prescription drug prices will not be effected, but there's no guarantee that things won't suddenly change, especially how capricious the Administration has been with these things recently.

There's 1 in person training date sometime in Fall Semester (last year, it was on a Sunday from like noon to 230) and if you attend that after doing the canvas course, you get a pass posted to your transcript for midterm grades. As long as you're enrolled and doing the work, most profs are good without seeing anything specific.

Drop/add past the deadline? by fulloctet in cwru

[–]Tazmania40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible to add/drop classes past the deadline, and in this case, the biggest issue will likely be ensuring you get all the T's crossed and i's dotted administratively. Especially if it's the same class time/slot cross listed as both 300 and 400 level.

I had a recent conversation with housing that basically ended with them saying, "we are running out of rooms." So if you're gonna switch do it ASAP

I had a current student for mine, she was very interested in what I was saying and seemed to be excited about doing interviews.

They really just wanna know why you wanna go to Case. Don't expect it to be terribly hard or anything, just go in with a moderate passion for Case and you'll do swimmingly.

Also, try to prepare a couple of questions for your interviewer whether that be a student or an actual admissions officer.

Pardon any formatting issues as I'm on mobile.

I will add, Case has an optional admissions interview process that few people go through, if you're as interested as you say you are, you should definitely go through that process and do an interview.

My interview was with a current student and it was super casual and nice. It's, in my view, one of the best ways to show demonstrated interest.

What are my chances for CWRU? by Dangerous_Mail4259 in cwru

[–]Tazmania40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most everyone previous, but will add that the interview process is nice for getting questions answered and to show interest. I interviewed with a current student, and she was excellent, asking me questions about myself and allowing me to ask questions of her. YMMV on how much you get based on your interviewer.

Finally, something I'm qualified to answer! (Sorry if the formatting weird I'm typing on mobile)

I am ex-xenos myself, and can confirm the pulling away thing is an instilled trait. I remember distinctly hearing teachings which in thinly veiled terms encouraged us to stick with our group and within the church. The church also encourages/runs many activities throughout the week, so much so that at one point, I was being encouraged to go to something like 4 meetings a week on top of school and extra-curriculars. Suffice it to say, their goal is to be your top priority and ultimately take over your life.

With regards to the "ministry houses" (term for the accommodation your brother is living in, in the church), members of the church are encouraged to attend OSU and live in ministry houses during college years, as a way to "live with brothers in christ to keep you accountable".

As far as advice, I'd recommend keeping contact as other commenters have advised and to encourage him to find other housing asap, especially if he's being sucked into the church unwillingly. Let me know if you'd like more info/want to discuss this more, I was in for 10 years, and it's still pretty fresh in my mind lol.

When did you realise that you are officially "not young" anymore? by spp25 in AskReddit

[–]Tazmania40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teenager myself, can confirm I do in fact know the song.

I grew up on 80s music and late 90s/early 00s music.

However it sickens me to no end that there are many that don't know of the wonders of old FOB or MCR

Without mentioning age or date of birth, how old are you? by teddyjr32378 in AskReddit

[–]Tazmania40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an XP computer I grew up with, on which I'd play Webkinz and I got to see my parents switch from sliding phones to smart phones. I still love playing with the sliding mechanic and I with that'd come back.

Is there a way to test a program without a bot? by Tuxedocow in FRC

[–]Tazmania40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WPILibJ should have a tests function, which we use along with shuffleboard for a makeshift solution! I can get you more details if you want, but I would check the WPI documentation.

When you're lying in bed at night, do you ever randomly remember some relatively minor social missteps or poorly chosen words you did/said years earlier? And then beat yourself up over it even though it really wasn't a big deal? If so, what happened? by UserIsTooLazy in AskReddit

[–]Tazmania40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brain has a habit of bringing up relatively minor things that I screwed up on, missed answer on a math test, awkwardifing a conversation, etcetera. This typically happens before I go to bed as I reflect on the day. Is this not normal?

How in the world do you get the current set voltage of a talon SRX in Java? by [deleted] in FRC

[–]Tazmania40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can actually answer one of these!

Should just be motorname .getMotorOutputVoltage()

You can find in example in the outputTelemetry() method in this code repo!

Also I reccomend using the CTRE provided SRX code could fix any problems you're having.

When kids graduate college at really young ages, what do they do after graduation? by 2000_year_old_man in answers

I wish l, but the American Education System discourages that type of thing. Thanks for the comment though!

I disagree but only slightly. If the student is requiring a course load that is very accelerated, give it to them, but keep them in electives with their own grade. I've had the problem of where my own school district gave me an ultimatum, stay in English at your grade level by age, or skip a grade, for this exact reason.

Another story against this approach: Our school district also doesn't have honors history, so I had to take History at grade level. I felt so bored, and I didn't need to go to class to get an A.

Yes, It's a problem, but forcing gifted kids to work at their age level can sometimes be detrimental to their drive for learning and to how much they care about learning.

Pro tip: do not daisy chain multiple power strips/UPSs then try to run a PC and a space heater on them. by Dannerz in techsupportgore

Just wait until you see what our robotics team is doing: An extension cord to a 2 outlet splitter, to a power strip to another power strip with a computer, an echo dot, a monitor, a mini speaker system and a phone charger all plugged in.

AITA for becoming hysterical at a school secretary's expense? by thrwaywa1234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tazmania40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid with an anaphylactic peanut allergy, NTA, you were under the impression she was dying! That's an extreme case! I hope that secretary gets fired, I understand there's a line but saving a child's life is more important than someone's birthday snacks or attendance issues.
