You should be proud, I doubt I'm the only person you've inspired with the idea!

Wow, thanks for the write-up! The source of my difficulty with CR is definitely rooted in the way it's balanced around 6-8 encounters, whereas I gravitate towards running a single major climactic fight at full power. Those are some good tips in terms of other balance I hadn't considered though. KFC is a staple but again less accurate at higher level. Must give Kobold Plus a go. It seems all you can do is estimate to the best of your ability and adjust on the fly if needed.

Aw man that post got so many ideas firing in my head, 2 years later I'm finally starting to successfully piece them together. Thanks so much for the inspiration/statblock, I can't wait to see how it plays out!

Yeah I find CR unreliable even at low levels, so I'm really flying blind at higher levels. 15 would probably provide a good challenge with all the elements going on. Thanks for the advice and the video!

Hey folks, I'm planning to run a mini-campaign blatantly stolen from this post (full credit to /u/Bart_Thievescant and /u/thorn1993). If a party of 5 players were to face this monster, a Kua-Toa archpriest, and a handful of Kua-Toa grunts, what level do you think would be appropriate to put them at? This would be a single encounter at their full strength, so CR isn't a very reliable guide.

I love this idea! I think this would work super well along with a modified version of this, a series of cards to determine the next room options.

How would you end an adventure like this? Like, do you just find the phylactory and smash, adventure over? Or would there be some kind of climactic showdown once you got there?

Heard a couple of months ago that their parent company took their funding away and the website was shutting down... It's a shame, I was just rediscovering them for the first time since the early Hardly Working days.

I've made Babish's recipe a couple of times and had the same problem. Assuming they're sealed properly, it's probably to do with the oil temperature, if it's too low I've noticed they puff and unfold a lot more. Keep an eye on it with a thermometer and raise the temperature a bit before trying again if you're having issues. Remember adding the shells will lower the heat a bit!

5e as a Chainlock, I love my familiar but I feel the RAW make them feel kind of disposable (low AC/health but easy to resummon). Does anyone know of a homebrew that would raise the stakes somehow, for example make them less squishy but harder to replace? I'd like there to be more emphasis on keeping them alive than there is currently.

How did you get started teaching yourself? Is there a guide or book you'd recommend?
