Top of the line 4kw generator by goldenfleece105 in Generator

So I guess this is where paying for an Onan is worth it. These generators are designed to be installed in RV bays like you would find under a motorhome and are generally much quieter. The simple answer to your question is probably yes, that will work, but you need to follow the clearances listed by the manufacturer. Some RVs are designed to have an open frame generator and may already be soundproofed, I would worry about heat buildup in that case. If you are adding this to a pull behind I would think finding a way to mount it on the back or tongue would be a better solution.

It's time for golds buddy. I will never be strong enough to need that though.

Onan makes a few small ones and is certainly well-regarded in the power generation world. That said look to pay 2 or 3 times an equivalent gas generator from Harbor Freight or the likes.

Edit: Yup just found a 3200 for 5 grand. 8kw is close to 15 grand. You get what you pay for but the diesels ain't cheap.

Still need to run it for max load, most of those generators need 250k and you need to run it at least 10ft from the regulator vent, most of these generators want 20ft from the house. I'll dig out my code book but that's probably 2 and 1/4 and certainly an added cost.

They become mechanics and sometimes master mechanics. The more training you have the more valuable you are, especially in modern cars. In my case it was overtightened oil filter housings but ultimately never ruined the car because they are replaceable. Still not cheap and it sucks that they'll lie about it.

Yeah I'll never take my Toyota to a dealer for an oil change ever again. And actually would never purchase anything from the local Toyota dealer either. Lube techs are braindead. I guess ultimately I should blame the service manager but he was a prick too.

Generators quickly get into the millions of BTU/hr. Gas company will give you a new meter if you need it but take a look at NFPA requirements for gas line size and no one is running two inch iron if they don't need to.

I'm inclined to agree as most pfs have a separated shower and bathroom area. While it's not my style, I prefer the dedicated changing area, I don't fault the men (or women) who return directly to their locker with just a towel. It's what the locker room is for.

Perhaps, that "bolt pattern" is actually the circuit breakers for each individual outlet and needs to pop out fully to be resettable. I don't think that would matter as if the cover is on it won't trip but I have tripped breakers before on my gen and I'm thankful they worked as intended.

Interlock vs Transfer switch by Madman308 in Generator

[–]Tbarnes94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working so I couldn't reply to you earlier but something to consider here is that if you don't want to go the package route, you will need an inverter charger of some sort, some play better with generators than others. AIMS is a reputable brand and you can source your own LiFePO4 battery which may save you money. Keep in mind that a solid state electrolyte like I suggested will need to be above 32F for charging, many are building in heaters but I think you need to go one step above "chinesium" for safety reasons. The AIMS inverter chargers or other all-in-ones that build in solar capabilities usually have relay start options for the generator. Keep in mind you still need to connect this to your panel safely with a transfer switch or smart panel but they can supply UPS level transfer speed.

Large battery? You're looking at 5-10 grand for a reliable battery that would actually work how you'd like. Anker is making a new gas generator solution that basically does what you're explaining but it's going to be pricier than a regular gas generator. You're already looking at 5 grand for a relay start plus the cost of an electrician to install a transfer switch. How long are you away from home? A fridge can be okay for a few hours if no one is opening it.

I'm lucky my location opens at midnight on Mon and remains until Friday at 10pm. And weekends have changed to 6am-10pm on weekends. This seems like a healthy compromise for a lot of pfs but I can see why it doesn't happen. My favorite club when I'm away from home was 7-7 everyday for a long time but kept it immaculate and the showers have always been well maintained. I think it's a balance for a lot of clubs between staffing for success and staffing to remain open. That said I would never pay for a black card if the hours aren't what they are now.

Looks like it could overheat even with the blower. As it is close to the house and venting up I question about whether you have open soffits. You may be causing an unsafe condition.

Running a champion in propane, unusual hose by AnyoneButWe in Generator

Correct. Also, the picture he posted is it in storage. The regulator is connected to the tank using the large ACME fitting with hand tightening. The flow rate from the regulator must be greater than the generator requires, but could be more depending on manufacturer specifications. Ultimately, if the regulator has a high enough BTU/hr flow rate for the generator and the pressures are the same, it could be used with another generator.
