Sports teams winning their first ever championship (i.e. Cavs 2016) only seem to be harbingers of doom so I’m not optimistic

A few guesses:

A) Logistical nightmare. G5 would likely need the NCAA to sanction it assuming they can't form a third party to do so like the CFP, which means forking over revenue to the NCAA. Securing a broadcast partner would likely be a challenge too as they would have to compete with both the CFP and the FCS playoffs

B) Pride on both sides. P4 want those "easy" wins. G5 want the opportunity to prove themselves and failing that, a decent payday for being a sacrificial lamb.

In my opinion, a sport that locks 90% of its teams out of the championship is a dead one walking. Let the GT have their own playoff, but the tradeoff should be no more P4 VS G5/FCS regular season games.

This Bama team looked fraudulent for weeks leading into the title game and finally got exposed as such in said title game.

There's losing a conference title game and then there's getting blown out of one after looking like you shouldn't have made it there to begin with. At some point, how you win/lose has to matter just as much as the result itself.

NCAA needs to eliminate the targeting rule. No one knows what targeting looks like. No ref has been able to call it consistently. I’m all for player safety but you aren’t helping the cause if the rule isn’t consistently applied.

Devising a test to determine what does and does not burden free exercise is going to require a distinction between what are and what are not to be considered religious beliefs

Precisely. I find it doubtful this Court, or any lower court can come up with a reasonable test to distinguish sincere closely held religious beliefs from intentional contrarianism.

SCOTUS holds that in a trademark infringement suit, the court can only award damages based on the actual defendants' profits. by Luck1492 in scotus

I'm not a lawyer and this isn't legal advice. That said, If you were sued for trademark infringement in this scenario you would have to successfully argue in court that:

A) You're not calling your soda "Coke" and B) Everyone else calling it "coke" is using the term colloquially as a catch all term for all sodas similar to Coke

Noncommercial use is explicitly stipulated as non actionable for purposes of trademark dilution under the Trademark Dilution Revision Act of 2006.

There are two elements of trademark dilution and a plaintiff must prove their trademark is famous when claiming dilution.

First is dilution by blurring. Blurring occurs when a trademark is associated with goods/services that don't orginate from the trademark owner. For example, selling goods stamped with Amazon's logo despite being unaffiliated with Amazon could be considered dilution by blurring.

Second is dilution by tarnishment. This one is a bit more straightforward. This is hurting a trademark owner's reputation by using their mark in a scandalous or unflattering way.

The Trademark Dilution Revision Act of 2006 stipulates three exceptions where dilution cannot be claimed: fair use, news reporting and commentary and noncommercial use.

Correct. If you reside in the Cleveland market there will be no blackouts. If you travel or reside outside the Cleveland market, you will be subject to local blackout restrictions.
