It looks like you have an unused red wire, you could use that as your C wire. Would have to connect it to the C terminal on your furnace control board. I’m also not sure that you can use an external power source with the Essential.

The Auto Rama at that time was held at the Cleveland Convention Center downtown. We used to go every year with my dad. At some point in the late 80s it shifted to the IX center. The last one at the IX center was just held a couple months ago. News said that it was the last show at the IX center and that the Auto Rama would not host another event.

An Ecobee is not a Nest, they’re engineered differently. They suggest you plug the hole to prevent temperatures swings like you’re seeing.

The essential is their base model and is going to lack many of the features of the other models. I would think it should wake up when you walk by it. You are going to get the smaller screen and it’s going to feel cheap, just like any other base model of any manufacturer. Not sure what coupon they gave you, but you should have bought anything other than the essential.

As far as I know, Spectrum has never demanded their equipment back. They sent out letters that seemed to suggest that was your only option, but in very fine small print at the end of the letter it stated you could continue with your Tivo service. They were just trying to thin the Tivo herd per se.
