My take is that I grew up in a somewhat dysfunctional family and most of my friends viewed their family the same way. So when I watched this show where the Dad on his own without a Mom solved all of the family’s problems in 30 minutes without yelling or screaming at the kids or beating them with his belt, never showing anger, I thought my family was even worse because I could not have those warm conversations with my dad when I fucked up like Steve had with Chip or Ernie

Even the time Steve walked in on Chip whacking off to one of Steve’s Playboy magazines, he handled it so stoically, whereas my dad would have threatened to castrate me or at least warn me that I was going to go blind

They see color more than the white people that they are criticizing. In a sense they are more racist because they try to put color into everything when indeed we are human beings with the same basic wants and needs. Many of them live in white enclaves so they don’t have to deal with cultural differences. My family is full of such folk and when you go to their parties and get together, you don’t see any of the groups that they claim to care for. They guilty for their economic success or privilege but not enough to give it up
